They've revealed a cover draft for Gebranntes Kind (Once Burned). This will be the first Cross Cult NF novel that is not a reprint, since the former publisher hasn't published Once Burned and Double or Nothing for some reason and jumped directly to The Quit Place after Fire on High. And no, I've no idea why Burgoyne is in the bar. ETA: Burgoyne apparently is only a place holder in this early draft.
Is that supposed to be Calhoun as the prime figure getting the drink from the waitress? If so, it looks nothing like the Calhoun that has been used on the North American covers. Although, its seems Germany's Calhoun has also been protrayed as the same thuggish looking character Defcon just shared. So there are two interpretations out there? One for NA and one for Germany/Europe?
Yeah, it supposed to be Calhoun. And this is just CC's interpretation of the character, it's not for all of Europe (or Germany for that matter, as another German publisher has published some of the books with the US Calhoun on the cover).
I guess NF's Calhoun is having his own "Saavik" portrayal issues.... Kristie Alley or Robin Curtis....
So far the only German cover that's made me jealous enough to consider getting a German language version (which I won't be able to read anyway) has been the very cool Ensign Janos cover. Very tempted to do my second visit to Amazon.de. http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?p...et=a.296796548230.147081.270679318230&theater (The first visit was to order "Symbiose", the German trade omnibus/graphic novel of the "Divided We Fall" DS9/TNG crossover comic mini-series that was never collected in English.) The other German novel covers are no less Photoshoppy and cutty/pastey than the US covers people complain about.
^^"(which I won't be able to read anyway)" I ordered it after posting. For the cover only. I bought the "Symbiose" graphic novel because I couldn't stand that the individual issues missed out on getting an omnibus. Unless s/he's been a captain s/he won't ever find the magic door.
Where? amazon.de? If it's not to late Book Depository might be the cheaper option for you (no shipping): http://www.bookdepository.com/book/9783942649032/Star-Trek---New-Frontier-3-Mrtyrer?selectCurrency=AUD
Yeah. I was amazed the last time that, even though I couldn't read the German buttons, the layout is the same and my postage and credit card details all pop up as a transfer from regular Amazon. So it was really only about three or four clicks and it was all done. Postage did seem steep, though. Oh well.
They get better covers for the same reason I attribute their cool guns, nice cars, and Heidi Klum: Nazi Occultists
Wouldn't it be just precious if Calhoun was so wound-up about seeing past-Kenyon, he completely failed to notice that future-Burgoyne was there?
That's pretty funny, I know an American dude who did pretty much the same when some videogame wasn't available stateside. He was very amused about the usual Amazon confirmation emails containing "tons on very long words and umlauts"
Terrible cover, and for those wondering, the German title translates into "The Weapon". Very imagenative title.
My German edition of NF with Ensign Janos on the cover arrived a weeks or so ago - and it's wild! Literally.
Figurative titles can be hard to translate, I guess. My two "Hub" stories from Analog have been reprinted in Russia in recent months; "The Hub of the Matter" was given a title meaning "In the Thick of Things," which vaguely preserves some of the meaning, but "Home is Where the Hub Is" became "Point of Exit."
