Actually, Dredd 3D is making a ton of money in video sales, which means that there may be a sequel after all.

As hopeful as I am, I wouldn't hold my breath. If anything, a Dredd sequel could end up being direct to home video, and in that case it's possible Urban wouldn't star in it.

That is all nice and good, but I know some people who had no idea, that Uhura and Neytiri were played by the same actress before I told them that. If I wouldn't be a big Star Trek fan, I probably wouldn't know, who Zoe Saldana is, despite watching Avatar and Pirates of the Caribbean. In the later case I only really remember seeing Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley. I don't even know the names of the actors, who played the main villains.

That isn't a fact. Just your opinion. Personally I think Pine looks better than Quinto.

Yes, exactly. Uhura is on the poster, because she is a women. Just like it was the case in 2009.

In the last movie McCoy and Uhura had about the same screen time, but they chose Uhura for the poster, because they didn't want to put three guys on it for marketing reasons. So the poster alone doesn't indicate, that Uhura will get more screen time than McCoy in Into Darkness.

I suspect Kirk and Spock will get again clearly the main focus. After them McCoy, Uhura and John Harrison will probably be on a similar level. Maybe also Carol Marcus. I am not sure, how big her role will be.

For those of you who missed it. Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, and Zoe Saldana at the 2013 MTV Movie Awards

So that's it then? Uhura has replaced Bones in the trinity. Partially because of Spock and Uhura's "relationship" but mostly because JJ wants to appeal to the modern female audiences. Pssh at least JJ isn't Bryan Singer and thinks women want to see protagonists get shacked up with a baby of an absent father.

I've had touches of grey in my beard since I was 25 (30 now), it happens to most of us at somepoint.

It's a shame that McCoy seems forced out of his proper place (love Karl Urban!). But it will be as much about trying to hit the right demographics and get more bums on seats than the characters place in the film.

Have to say I prefer AllStarEntprise's version of the move poster (very nice work, btw).

Personally, I find Zoe Saldana to be very grating. I'm hoping she warms up in STID.

Beards are often the first body hair to turn gray.

It matters a lot, whether that makes sense to you or not. Saldana is a star on the rise, thanks in great part to Avatar, so of course she's going to be central to this movie. Karl Urban is cool, but he's not setting Hollywood afire.

The first that you're going to see on basic cable, anyway.

I don't think females are watching for Uhura. That said, yes we want a woman in the big 3

Trek started as a Big 4. Uhura is replacing Rand, not McCoy. I don't know why so many people are frothing at the mouth about this!

I wish people would move on. I have been reading a lot of comments from bbs, trekmovie and trekweb and it saddens to me to see that sexism is still an ongoing thing in the world.I just read a comment from trekweb saying that uhura needs to sit down and answer the phone. Am sorry, but that comment is a huge insult to all respected educated working women of the world.

Trek takes place in the 23rd century where (hopefully) men and woman are evenly matched.

also what exactly do sexist men want? they bash uhura for been just the girlfriend in the first film and now they are bashing her for actually getting out there are kicking ass.its a no win situation for the lead females in the JJ Trek universe.

Alice eve has even had it worse ,a lot of men do not care about her character all they care about is how great her body is.

President Obama was recently in a sexist controversy because he commented a woman on her looks.I would think most men will have learnt from his silly mistake but here we are...still.

    it makes me sick.

I can't bring myself to dignify such a comment with a direct response! :cardie: They've showing season one of TOS on CBS recently and I must say I much preferred the more ensemble feel to the earlier episodes to the greater focus on the Big 3 that came later. If you watch the shows in the order they were originally intended to be shown, you can see a fair bit of character development going on.

Janice Rand was probably a more versatile character than Uhura in that her job was mobile and she didn't need an excuse to get off the ship (we also saw quite a few carbon copy yeomen on landing parties throughout season one). McCoy suffers from a similar problem to Uhura in that his focus is often in one part of the ship and in an action movie that could limit his contribution. His role as Kirk's friend is what should broaden his contribution in a similar way to Uhura/Spock plus every landing party can justify the need for a medic. It also looks like Uhura is not going to be confined to her post in the sequel.

On balance I'm expecting their contributions to be on par, so we are back to the Big 4 that was originally intended in TOS.

Nutrek is still incredibly sexist. Don't be fooled by a couple of high profile token females. I've been moaning at IDW telling them that they need to try an even up the numbers. They have been using Rand and Zahra as recurring security guards but the balance is thrown back out by Cupcake and Boma. Hopefully they will give Chapel a sufficient cameo to justify her inclusion in the comics, we'll have Alice Eve's character, but even then they could still make more use of women like Helen Noel or Anne Mulhall who have specialisms that can crop up regularly and they should be used where appropriate.

I was a bit irritated when the comic version of WNMHGB wrote out Dehner and used... nobody instead so we had no women in the story at all. Where was Noel?
