I loved Martha Hackett's work with Star Trek after first seeing her in a DS9 episode, so was pleased to see her in what might be a semi-regular job on Voyager. I wasn't too thrilled with the Cardassian turn and Kazon affiliation, but I liked Seska the character. She still could have been an untrustworthy Maquis who later dies either redeeming herself (ala Lon Suder), or having to be killed by a score-settling Chakotay for being such a bad-ass evil bitch.
I much prefer people who can't be stuffed redeeming themselves. I would have LOVED to see Seska return some seasons later. She should not have died. We should know she is still out there in the Trekverse. This would never happen.
Though, there might be a Mr & Mrs Smith moment Seven: I have reviewed Voyager's early logs, who is this Seska? Chuckles: She was a girl I dated, she turned out to be a Cardasian spy. Seven: Do you have a genetic sample of her? Chuckles: No Seven, you're not going to get the Borg to hunt her down and assimilate her.
Whoa. Your new partner assimilates all knowledge of your past partners via assimilating your past partners..
Seriously, guys get paranoid enough about their SOs getting too much info about their pasts. Who'd date one who could just jack your brain any time she wants and you'd never know it.
Yeah who cares about past partners, it's the unspoken words in the current relationship that are best left unsaid.
I get the impression that Beltran is joking a lot of the time in this interview. If he really hated Star Trek, why should he continue to visit conventions and such? He don't seem to be a greedy guy. Besides that, some of his comments, jokes or not, does have a point, such as the one about "shields down at 25 %". Sometimes there were just too much unnecessary drama, like when the ship was microseconds from crashing in "Tattoo". That scenario wasn't even necessary for the story itself. As for Beltran's suggestions for the character Chakotay, he stated in an interview a couple of years ago that he did have a lot of suggestions for the character but almost all of them were rejected or downright ignored by those in charge.
^^ No, what I have figured out, it came gradually. Obviously he tried his best to come up with suggestions and ideas for the first 3-4 seasons. Around season 6 he was tired and wanted out. He actually suggested that they should write out Chakotay but they refused. That's one of the few things I'm happy about. If they had written him out, they would have killed him off, something I really didn't want. They could also have ruined the character in the same disgusting way they destroyed Kes. Anyway, I can't imagine Voyager without Chakotay, my second favorite character in the show.
But what if he had died saving the ship and Tom had built another super shuttle and named it the Spirit of Chakotay?
And the Spirit of Chakotay even gets a fancy logo, based on Chakotay's tattoo. It doesn't use his face, because then Beltran would have to be paid every time it's used.
The tattoo logo on the side.. the wind pipes whenever it's shown flying.. this seems so likely it's terrifying.
Janeway is the best, chuck out the rest. Oh except 7.. you can chuck her out with Janeway. Marooned, even.
