Now THAT was a trailer! :D

I'm super-psyched now. Everyone looks fantastic. Ian McKellen and Cate Blanchett look like they haven't aged a day since LOTR finished filming, Martin Freeman looks fantastic as Bilbo, and I love the dwarves. Ian Holm still looks great, too.

    One more year. :sigh:

That was amazing. It has been over seven years since we last saw something new in Middle-Earth - far too long. The Dwarf song in Bag End was quite haunting, and created a great atmosphere for the rest of the trailer. Is it December 2012 yet??

My only very minor disapointment is the lack of Stephen Fry, Evangeline Lily, and Lee Pace. But this was the first trailer, so hopefully they'll pop up in later ones.

I've had a feeling the trailer would end with Gollum for a long time now.

But I thought the line would be "We hates it forever!"

    Looks good.

Scary to think that it'll have been almost a full decade between Return of the King and this. Time flies.

Very cool... although part of me wishes we got a slightly different visual look from LOTR (being a different story, and taking place in an earlier time). I'm getting just a little bit of a "been there, seen that" feeling from this for some reason.

Of course I'm speaking as someone who enjoyed the other movies but doesn't exactly worship Tolkien, so feel free to ignore my opinion. ;)

That was good. I still don't know why he has to go 3-D, or why he has to film in 48fps. And I hope Jackson realizes how to do something based on something original.

That said, this looked good... though Thorin looked almost man-sized

My friend loves the books, especially the Hobbit, and she loved the films. Her only problem was that she never "bought' Gandalf's silly pointed hat.. (though I like it). looks like it features prominently here.

I'm guessing that their characters won't appear until the second movie.

If I was any happier, it'd be illegal.

    SQUEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!

Now that's how you do a teaser trailer.

Oh, I'm sure it will be (they've said it was), but these shots are mostly from Bag End in the Shire. I don't think there's anything east of Rivendell and the Misty Mountains in that trailer.

Just watched the trailer, and I only have one thing to say: THAT WAS AWESOME!!!!!!!!

I would've been psyched for this movie even if it weren't being done by Peter Jackson and Co., since The Hobbit is the one novel by J.R.R. Tolkien that I was able to read and enjoy, but seeing the trailer just amped my anticipation for the Hobbit movie(s) up even more.

The trailer, IMO, had a very similar 'feel' to that of the LotR films, which is kind of impressive given that the Hobbit novel has a much different 'feel' to it than the LotR novels do.

It should also be noted that I'm a huge fan of Peter Jackson's LotR film adaptations, despite not being able to actually read the LotR novels due to the ponderous nature of the way Tolkien wrote them, and am very glad that the Hobbit movies are being made by, more or less, the same people.

    Just think...

First there wasn't even going to be a movie of The Hobbit...

Then there was going to be a movie, but not with Jackson directing...

Now we're getting the movie(s) with Jackson directing.

For which I am very, very happy, although I would've gone and seen the Del Toro-directed films because they still would've had Jackson and Co.'s 'stamp' on them, at least partially, even without Jackson himself directing.

Jackson directing and producing the films makes things better, though, since, as noted, I absolutely love his LotR adaptations.
