NBC had a Rockford Files remake a few years ago with Dermot Mulroney that they didn't pick up.

Considering Castle is basically Murder, He Wrote, I don't see this working so well.

Well I guess "reboot" in this case means younger actress. Spencer is about 15 years younger than Angela Lansbury when she started the original series.

I liked the ironside reboot, but I doubt I'd watch this one.

Umm, did Ironside actually do well, or is that sarcasm? I gave up on it after the first scene of the pilot, which featured the lead character engaging in police brutality. I certainly hope it didn't do well.

NBC canceled it, and pulled it from the schedual. It's done. I was disappointed.

Ironman was DOA, it was a stupid idea for a reboot.

Every reboot NBC has tried hasn't done well, I can't think of any that made it to a second season. At some point they will have to come up with an original idea.

Well, its '79 Buck Rogers, arguably a "reboot" of the novel, comics, and movie serial, lasted two seasons. Its 1967 revival of Dragnet ran four seasons, but that's more a direct sequel than a reboot.

There's no such thing. Every concept has been done before; originality is in the execution.

Did the reboot Ironside at least have the signature theme music? :D

NBC failed on Ironside from the beginning by not casting Michael Ironside as Ironside. I'm afraid they're going to go too edgy with Murder, She Wrote by making her a lesbian pop singer or something who writes books and solves crimes.

That's not a reboot. That would just be a new show continuing the old one, like the Mission: Impossible revival ultimately ended up being after they originally set it up to be a straight up remake. Like what the Maverick movie may or may not be depending on who you ask.

You just ruined the huge plot twist NBC had planned to end the rebooted series!

They're making her an African-American "hospital administrator and amateur sleuth... who self-publishes her first mystery novel." I guess the self-publishing thing is trying to be trendy.

Yep, that's a popular theory, Jessica Fletcher as the world's most brilliant serial killer. Although it still doesn't explain why anyone was still willing to invite her anywhere after a while...

Sort of sounds like a potential disaster along the lines of Mrs. Columbo, which was reworked into Kate Columbo, which was reworked into Kate the Detective, which was reworked into Kate Loves a Mystery, just packaged under a different name and premise.

    That'd be an interesting reboot...

Or they could just make a tv show adaptation of Fatal Attraction.

Any unrealized premise is a potential disaster, or a potential success. It's all in the execution.

After all, it wasn't the concept of Murder, She Wrote that made it succeed. The concept, as many have noted, was ridiculous. What made it work was Angela Lansbury's talent and charisma, and the legion of name guest stars she was surrounded with, and the cleverness of the writing and the mysteries. So if this version has a strong lead, clever writing, and good guests, it could work too. Or it could turn out to be a mess. That's the gamble with any series, remake or not.

If they used this premise for the reboot, I definitely would watch it.
