It's less than two months until Christmas! I thought I'd start a thread to share Xmas stories, pictures and anything else Xmas-y. Here's a nice generic Xmas pic I found on Google to start off: It's become a slightly weird ritual in our home to dig out the old VHS of South Park's "Mr Hanky's Christmas Classics" once a year... [yt]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bt50O9_jSuU[/yt] I'll be back with more, later!
I love Christmas. Unfortunately those around me don't share my enthusiasm. I love giving presents. The people I want to buy for keep saying "Don't but me anything this year" but I really want to get them something. Those that do buy for me want to know exactly want I want. I say "Surprise Me" as I love opening presents if I don't know what is inside. I had to take my best friend to a shop and show her about a dozen things I wouldn't mind getting. She is going to buy me one of the things I suggested and that is the nearest I will get to a surprise from her. I will put the Xmas tree up on Dec 1st and take it down on Jan 1st.
One year I didn't put our tree out on the curb for pickup until Easter. My neighbors were aghast. It had about six needles left on it.
I actually wish Mr.ORSE would stop dragging home the most enormouos trees he can buy. I grew up amongst a forest of Pines and 1) don't understand paying $ for them and 2) think it's criminal to grow trees to cut them down for DECORATIVE purposes. He argues that is is less enviro-friendly to buy plastic ones. We've yet to resolve the issue but now elder son is gone I am likely to win the argument by just pulling the plastic one out of the box again. It could happen. btw, I've never heard of an allergy to pines. he must suffer quite a bit yuletime.
^Agreed. I'd threaten to tie you down and whip you senseless, Daniel, but you'd enjoy it far too much.
What a coincidence! I just bought my first (new) x-mas decorative object today: Quite a horror, right? -it's about a foot tall (without the hat) and the lights can be set to 'blinking' or 'constant on'.
http://www.slate.com/id/2180086/ I too hate seeing trees sawed down for stupid reasons. I think it might be better for the environment to use a real tree, though.
^interesting - thanks. now I've even more of a quandry! what to do? gahhh! well, I've already got the plastic one but it won't stop Mr. ORSE from bringing home a live tree. I guess we're equla opportunity nature kilelrs.
I have an artificial tree too but won't put it up until maybe after Thanksgiving. And yes, it's not Halloween yet (Probably my least favorite holiday) and then it's time to prepare for Thanksgiving. I am so not ready for anything "Christmas-y" at all.
Living trees are a nice alternative. We used to do living trees when I was a kid. When Christmas is over you can plant them in your yard or find a park to donate them to. As I recall, we had only one ever die on us after planting.
-59 Yes, I'm doing a countdown (it's yours if you want it, Shaytan!) Everyone I know (here in soggy old England) only has plastic trees. We binned one a couple of years ago that I'd known my whole life. It was well past it's time, but I grew up with that tree and felt horrible getting rid of it When I was in single-digits, I'd fly my little Enterprise toy between the branches and pretend it was a gigantic Crystalline Entity. Probably shouldn't have shared that last bit
I love Christmas, but I wish it would be restricted to the month of December. Our local Warehouse (New Zealand's Walmart) had Christmas stuff out in September. SEPTEMBER!?!
^ Same here mate. Said something about Christmas the other day to one of my flatmates. I'm yet to put anything up.
