Revenge? Nah. I don't need no revenge!

I came across the following image today, and thought about using it to play a joke on some friends by calling them and reading the provided instructions until the punchline hit them.

    I just couldn't do it.

So, I've chosen to live vicariously through you.

Here is the image; please share any stories!

Wow, I'm gonna have to try that on somebody.

I used to get a kick out of telling people they could do a neat trick on Windows by pressing ALT-F4.

Yeah, I saw that a lot when I would play WoW. Some new guy would say "So how do I dance?" and it wouldn't be 5 seconds someone would reply with "Press Alt + F4 at the same time, buddy". A few seconds later the new guy would disappear.

I used to tell kids playing Crimson Skies on Xbox Online that you could get the upgraded version of the plane they chose by hitting A,A,X,X, down, left, B. B was the command to drop out of the game. I am a bastard. :)

For another trick, press CTRL-ALT-(down arrow). If you're lucky, it will just flip your screen upside down. If you're unlucky, it'll do a hard crash of your system. :D

I did the whole Alt+F4 thing. Raise your hand if you ever convinced someone to cure lag by going into command prompt and doing Format C: <eg> Raises hand.

You don't even have to do that, just: rmdir /S /Q "C:\Docume~1"

That'll fuck up their profiles enough your average user won't be able to log in at all.

If you have good video drivers, it will work fine. It's also a mean thing to do to a coworker who leaves their computer unlocked and steps away. ^_^

If you have shit drivers, however, it won't be pretty! I learned this the hard way when I used it as a "trick" on a friend. She was kind of pissed. :(

I witnessed the ALT+F4 trick many times in the old days playing Empire Earth online. As shameful as it is to admit, I also fell for it once.

Upon reading the original post, I just realized how much junk was in my keyboard... and subsequently emptied a whole bunch of loot out of it onto my just-cleaned-with-pledge desk.

I am entirely guilty of sitting at the computer watching movies/TV shows and eating crackers at the same time, and I never realized how many of them were going under the keys.

OK...on the subject of dirty keyboards, what's the quickest (CHEAP) way to clean one out without prying up the keys? Mine has reached the stage of ungodly.

For those of us non-Windows users - what does Alt-F4 do?

Nerys: You might try a small vacuum, like a dustbuster or something. Or perhaps a duster would work. I dunno, my keyboard is very flat (the only kind that my hands don't hurt when I use!) so it doesn't collect a lot of stuff. It's a keyboard I highly recommend, by the way. ;)

A can of compressed air usually does the trick for me, unearthing all sorts of random debris.
