Re: Typhon Pact: Zero Sum Game Review thread nah, you didnt scare me. but i had this Whiskey-Tango-Foxtrot feeling. "what the hell is he on?" kinda thing. i could actually picture a guy jumping up and down in front of the computer, wearing a tshirt with ezri and julian on it and the text "Zero sum game. I want to believe". actually, i might have one of those manufactured...
Re: Typhon Pact: Zero Sum Game Review thread I got my copy in the mail today but I'm busy reading the Wicked Years and I'm usually an extremely slow reader. I also have to read several more of the "A Time To..." books, "A Singular Destiny", "Losing The Peace", the 2 latest Voyager books, & the 2 latest Titan books before I read this. The plus side to that is that I have a great bunch of books to read and by the time I get to this one the other Typhon Pact books will most likely be out.
Re: Typhon Pact: Zero Sum Game Review thread hey man, i was kidding. you didnt take all that crap seriously, did you? although i've given the tshirt a fair amount of though...
Re: Typhon Pact: Zero Sum Game Review thread I got it from Simon & Schuster as an ebook, but I'm having technical problems (which I asked for help with on the E-Book and Reader thread) so I haven't gotten to "crack it open" yet.
Re: Typhon Pact: Zero Sum Game Review thread For anyone interested in a chance to win a free, personalized and autographed copy of Zero Sum Game, head on over to the blog of my agent, Lucienne Diver, and read my guest post, "Whom Authors Would Destroy."
Re: Typhon Pact: Zero Sum Game Review thread Very interesting post. I think the fact that you're not afraid to be mean to you're characters is part of what makes you one of my favorite authors. I do like happy stories, but they just never have the same kind of impact as stories where the characters go through hell.
Re: Typhon Pact: Zero Sum Game Review thread ^ i agree. they seem, i dunno, deeper? yeah yeah, everything will be fine in the end. happily ever after. somehow i like the change of the stereotype. call me evil, but i still like it. btw not sure if its a good idea to post this, but id kill for a signed copy of that book
Re: Typhon Pact: Zero Sum Game Review thread Yep. And that's part of why you're the best Trek writer I think. Wildfire is still the only SCE story I actually gave a crap about; the rest was too light, but Wildfire was incredible. And now I'm really looking forward to that novella...
Re: Typhon Pact: Zero Sum Game Review thread I still haven't read this yet as despite Amazon saying it would be on Kindle today it seems to be a no show
Re: Typhon Pact: Zero Sum Game Review thread The same thing has happened with the apple ibookstore, all week its been there as a pre order with the release date today and now all of sudden its just disappeared.
Re: Typhon Pact: Zero Sum Game Review thread Excellent. And Mr. Mack, I agree wholeheartedly. I would say the characters a writer loves the most are also the ones said writer wants to grow. Make them face the greatest of challenges--make them search deep into their souls...and in so doing, discover what they are truly made of. Case in point: Without giving anything away, I've been putting my beloved Ezri through a lot of emotional torment in a couple of my own fanfics. Paradoxically, my adoration for her often leads me to put her in situations that make her come pretty darn close to breaking down in tears, a la "Afterimage".... When we see these characters face these terrible things, it increases our respect, admiration, and love for them.
Re: Typhon Pact: Zero Sum Game Review thread I'm about half-way through ZSG right now, and loving it. So cool of a look at the Breen.
Re: Typhon Pact: Zero Sum Game Review thread I got the Nook version and started it. Haven't made it past the stuff that I've already read online though.
Re: Typhon Pact: Zero Sum Game Review thread Mine came through the post today, upto page 40 with the explanation of the Breen which made me chuckle, was a brilliant, yet somewhat obvious way of getting around all the different explanation of what they look like. Also, can it be inferred that Kira is an admiral and not a captain now?
Re: Typhon Pact: Zero Sum Game Review thread I have a feeling that sentence was cut off so as to imply that, but that really something more interesting is going on.
Re: Typhon Pact: Zero Sum Game Review thread ^ My hope is that the seeming likelihood of something else having happened to Kira is itself a misdirection. I'd like to see her as an admiral.
Re: Typhon Pact: Zero Sum Game Review thread ^I assume she's in Starfleet, then? Because the Bajoran Militia had army ranks, rather than the "navy" system of Starfleet. So...has the Militia been absorbed into Starfleet by this time?
