That poster is setting up high expectations that I don't think the episode can match.
Snowman look fine to me. Scary for Christmas day though.

Its the Doctor and the new companion climbin' up a ladder....how does that set up expectations that can't be matched in the episode?

I didn't mind last year's myself. It was fairly simplistic story but sometimes that's not a bad thing considering Moffat's usual fare :)

The ladder is the sympathetic creature for the special. It's made of kids with no parents.

Last year's special was fantastic. Brought a tear to my eye.

Rather, they're dangling from a ladder that's hanging from the TARDIS as it flies/hovers hundreds of meters above London. That certainly sets up some expectations.

Judging from the image of the Snowmen, this looks like it might be that long-awaited Doctor Who/Calvin and Hobbes crossover! The Deranged Mutant Killer Monster Snow Goons live! :D

Cos we aren't gonna see a scene as beautiful as that Poster. It's too movie like showing higher production values than what will actually be in the episode.

I think the poster is pretty crappy, so my expectations are just fine.

I'm actually glad they're continuing to make those posters for the episodes, as they did for the first half of the season. And I like the snowmen, which definitely recall the snow goons from C&H. Looking forward to it!

Strange how Jenna looks rather middle eastern in that poster.

    NTTAWWT.

And the snowmen seem fine. Certainly no worse than scarecrows, gel guards, or killer dept store dummies.

In the lap of squalor I assure you.
    I was expecting Yeti.

Haven't seen those buggers in decades.

Ouch! Forgotten already? You were just down ther
Well, freezing them with a hose would certainly be no more anti-climactic than when the 7th Doctor incapacitated the Candyman by spraying fizzy lemonade at his feet.:p

"Lets bring back the Yeti, allowing fans of old to be nostalgic at Christmas and fan of new to enjoy a new level of monster."

"No, lets do a standard, run-of-the-mill CGI monster like we always do."

    "Perhaps you're right."

Cut them some slack, obtaining the legal rights to use the Yeti would probably be too much trouble. After all, the Yeti belong to the same guys who created the Brigadier, and they or their estates (one of them, I think is dead) forced RTD and the gang to jump through a lot of hoops to get the Brigadier on SJA.
