EXACTLY!! Not all Klingons could have been put into such a nice little box. Otherwise there would have never been engineers to develop their ships, no doctors, politicians, cooks or anything other than a "Warrior". To quote Worf from his speech to Alexander in First born: Every boy will grow to be a man but it is not certain that every man will grow to be a warrior Having Alexander there helped to show just how varied Klingons could be. ESPECIALLY when their upbringing was not the norm. Goes toward the nurture versus nature argument of raising children and how they turn out.
Different from other Klingons, yes. Wishing he was like other Klingons but instead is a raving moron, no. I would have liked his desire to bring peace and diplomacy to the klingons carry over to DS9.
I liked Alexander way more on DS9 since he was an interesting character and not some whiny little douchebag type.
Agreed on both points. Anytime they dealt (or failed to deal) with worf's family it also made worf into a less likable character. Erasing his brother's memory without consent? Lame and dishonorable. Pretty much ignoring your only son save for a couple of episodes, where you talk about what a failure he is? Lame and dishonorable.
Well, even if we didn't get to SEE it, we do know that Alexander had to have changed off screen since he was promoted to Weapons Officer. On a Klingon ship there are only two ways to move up the latter. One: Be exceptional at your job. Two: Kill the guy that is your immediate superior and take his job. I seriously doubt that Alexander would do the second option that soon after seeing him at DS9 but in either case, we do know that he became a "True Klingon" in one of those aspects.
No, there was a war on and in war you take casualties. Even Worf said, "They were short on officers" referring to Alexander's promotion.
