... that make you remember your childhood.

Ladies and gentlemen, while cruising YouTube today, I found an educational video that I saw on the Disney Channel at the tender age of seven.

This is probably the video that cemented my love of space.

What are pieces of your childhood that you've found?

I discovered this video having long forgotten it -- though I remembered the song because we sang it all the time as kids, and once I saw the video I remembered it too. I have a completely not real but seemingly well supported theory (like evolutionary psychology!) that this one video is the subliminal cause of the current incarnation of the hipster trend. Everyone between the ages of 25 and 35 saw this video as children and the seeds were planted in their subconsciouses, to blossom decades later in the form of beards, molestaches, vintage clothing, reverence for the old-timy, and overlong and wearisome attempts at absurdism.

^^ I can't believe that I watched that whole thing. I think that I'm not quite as sane as I was 4 minutes and 43 seconds ago.:ack:

If that didn't blow your mind, then this might: one half of the duo Barnes and Barnes is Bill Mumy, of Lost in Space and Babylon 5 fame.

As for things that I find online that remind me of my childhood, being on the cusp of Gen X and Gen Y, Buzzfeed's obsession with the 90's reminds me of a good chunk of my later childhood years.

Yeah, yeah. I know. I'm getting old.

Pass me the clicker and my unopened pack of Freedent and get out. Matlock's coming on.

For ages people swore straight up and and down this show didn't exist:

    [yt]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WFgLL8EN71I[/yt]

But I clearly remembered staying up to watch it when aired. They thought I was talking about Star Trek or Star Wars or even BSG. One of earliest things I did online was to set out and prove to people I was right.

And of course, you can't grow up in the 80s with some toy commercials...uh I mean Saturday morning cartoons:

And fuck your Netflix and Itunes, this was the shit in the day...

Good ol' Electric Company. So many songs that stuck in my head from that show actually came in very useful later on in school.

I particularly liked the Tom Lehr songs for "L-Y."

Monday night television when I was in seventh grade meant ALF and the rest of that night's NBC network lineup - including The Hogan Family before it was ever The Hogan Family. Or had Sandy Duncan.

Being twelve years old in the '80s was pretty good all things considered.

Growing up, any other day of the week you had to drag me out of bed. Saturday morning rolled around, I'd be up before the rest of the house and watching cartoons with our dog. Get out the TV guide and look for ABC or CBS movies I wanted to watch and doing extra work to get permission to stay up. Gods, I can remember rushing home after school and piling up to watch Transformers and GoBots back to back while I ate supper and before I had to do homework.

And best time ever: Sci-Fi Saturday. Local station ran Robotech, BSG, Buck Rogers, TOS, then new episodes of TNG. Then when DS9 started we had TOS, TNG, DS9 with the prior week's episode repeating on Sunday afternoon.

^Oh good God, I feel old!

eta: Here's another one that always come to mind. The theme song is so groovy that it has stayed stuck in my head over 30 years.
    Vegetable Soup.

Back before I knew what anime was, these were like winning the lotto whenever one of the locals ran them:

And the first time I hear someone say wiki, naturally I thought of this:

Anyone else grow up in Seattle in the early 80s? As a mildly horribly aside: when I was a very young child I used to think that the classic Starbuck's logo -- the brown one with the bare-breasted nymph -- meant "Seattle." I think the "S" in both names confused me, and I always knew we were getting close to home because Seattle was the only place you'd see that logo.

God, now I've spent the past hour looking up the opening theme songs from shows I watched as a kid!

I remember being so upset and disappointed when ABC cancelled the series after just one season. Thankfully shows like Next Gen premiered not long after this stopped production so my twelve-year-old nerdrage was salved.

I think our generation was the last one to have really great television. Shows just had more meat on the bone.

    Mandatory "V"

^They made a series out of that? I LOVED that movie when I was a kid! I always remember, "Red means stop. Green means go. Yellow means go very fast."
