What's the advantage of buying this on bluray?

Possibly the episodes have been encoded at a higher bit-rate, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Most likely it's a cynical marketing campaign to cash in on the new movie, and make the fans think they are buying something new.

This was just an April's fool joke from treknews.de, nothing has been announced about a TNG Blu-Ray release.

Even there it wouldn't really compare, something that will be evident with VGER and DS9 too. ModernTrek was shot on much faster and less-rich looking stocks than TOS, and that is going to be even more evident with the best transfer. Look at some gorgeous Ted Moore shot pic like MAN FOR ALL SEASONS, then look at pics from the late 70s that are available light or with highspeed film ... no comparison.

    Blu-ray

TNG on Blu-ray has a ASIN# since December.

Target & Amazon.com both have listings.

I know it doesn't mean much but at least we can have some hope.

    Re: Blu-ray

Amazon often leave placeholders for things that haven't actually been announced and don't even exist, so it might not mean anything. I don't know anything about Target, but I imagine it could be the same.

    Re: TNG possible remaster [technical]

This is what CGI can do....it keeps the lines of the 6ft model with the detail of the 4ft model....excellent!!!

EH? TNG used models and other non-digital means for 99.9% of the effects. It wasn't until the late-DS9 era that they started using CGI to any extent, and it wasn't until very late VOY or even the start of ENT before they went 100% digital.

The thing that bugs me about this model, and really Gabriel should've known this, is that the saucer impulse engines are only on in seperated flight mode. They were always off during connected flight.

If at all possible, going full CG with the Enterprise D would be great. They can give many more shots of the ship for variety, at warp, going into orbit, in battle...
