I have decided my son is now old enough to be able to enjoy the Trek. What episode would be the best one to show him first?

(I showed him Star Wars: The Phantom Menace and he liked it. But I think Attack of the Clones would be a bit much for him yet)

"Arena" is my go-to to get kids involved. They love lizards.

    Good call.

That is the first ep. I can remember. I seem to recall that one being played on tv constantly when I was a kid. Ha!

The first one we showed my daughter was Tribbles. We've seen a lot more by now, but that was first.

We also watched the Star Wars movies in order of IV-VI/I-III and are now working our way through the Clone Wars, but we waited until she turned 6 to do that. My eight year old niece had never seen Star Wars, but she snuggled up next to me on the couch for all 7 hours of the OT and never moved a bit, except to look at me in awe during the "Reveal" in Empire.

Actually I showed him some TAS when he was 3 or 4. And he liked Spock and the Enterprise :-D

"Arena" was the first ep to come to mind. That was always my favorite episode as a kid.

Yes, I think Arena will be the first one I show him.

    Then Tribbles :-)

I really liked your The Rise of Khan books, btw.

I plan on reading To Reign in Hell eventually, too.:techman:

"A Piece of the Action" was one of my favorites as a kid. It's talky, but has lots of visual and verbal comedy. 'Arena as mentioned above Dinosaurs and Bazookas what's not to love. 'The Trouble with Tribbles', also mentioned, is great. 'The Changeling' is fun for the kid who likes robots and Kirk wins through out thinking the opponent instead of fighting.

Not sure when I will get the chance to show him an ep. or two. But when I do, I will post about his reactions.

They are bound to be interesting :techman:

My kids were into Tribbles when I showed it to them. It also helped that I gave them toy plush tribbles as well to get them more excited and give them a connection.

I was five when I first saw Star Trek, and my first episode was "The Corbomite Maneuver." I can't name anything specific about it that I think would be particularly suitable for children, but I'm still a devoted Trek fan and author to this day, and "Corbomite" is still a personal favorite of mine, so it must've done something right.

"Miri" or "And the Children Shall Lead" would be my choices for a five year old's first episode -- lots of kids in these episodes for them to identify with...

Pretty sure that was my first episode too. I think I saw part of it first run which would have made me around ten, but my memory that far back is a tad hazy.
