I gave it just an A. It was good, but it didn't hit it out of the park like I was hoping.

I think my favorite scene of the film,. And probably the one that perfectly exemplifies what kind of character Rogers is, is when Jones tosses the grenade and Steve, without even thinking flings himself on top of the grenade.

Yeah, that scene was great and really sold what sort of hero CA was.

That scene with the grenade sells his heart and dedication.
The scene where he gets the flag from the pole shows his ability to reason and problem solve and I enjoy it every time(which is about 5 viewings now).

Yeah, both of those scenes do a really good job of selling the heart of his character. The scene later when he goes off to save Bucky and the other captured soldiers really sells his superhero-ness. Captain America, for me, was probably the best superhero movie of this Summer.

The scene that shows us what kind of man Steve is, is the grenade scene.

But when he's asked if he wants to kill Nazis and he replies that he doesn't WANT to kill anyone, but just doesn't like bullies no matter who or where they are, I really think that embodied Steve as well.

The one thing that I really liked about the movie when I saw it in the theater (still haven't gotten a chance to see it since it came out on DVD/Blu-Ray/VOD/whatever), was that it really embraced the fact that it was a superhero movie and ran with that.

As opposed to what? Not saying I'm disagreeing with what you're saying, just could use some examples of what superhero movie did not embrace the fact that they are a superhero movie. Batman Begins? The Dark Knight?

Yeah, those two would be the best examples. I don't know, it just felt more comic booky to me than alot of the other superhero movies we've been getting. (I don't mean that in a bad way, it's actually one of the things I love about it).

Well, that certainly distinguished it from the 1970's tv-movie version of CAPTAIN AMERICA. Even as a kid, I could tell that the producers were embarrassed by the property's comic-book roots and trying to play down the more "comic-booky" aspects . . . like a lot of those old CBS Marvel Comics adaptations.

That would be a great place to start with the first DC / Marvel animated crossover!

Re: Captain America: The First Avenger-Review, Discuss, Grade, Sequel,

The sequel has now been given a release date--April 4, 2014 and if anything tells us that threads coming out of The Avengers will tie back into the Cap sequel. It in some way confirms the reports of how The Avengers will be told mostly from Cap's perspective. It also is further proof of the report that IM3 will be it's own movie with no direct Avengers build up as part of it's framework. Instead now using Cap as the character to keep moving to the next likely Avengers sequel.

I've got to think this Spring date is tied to recent success by The Lorax and The Hunger Games, again, showing a big budget movie if it has an audience can open well.

This move has to annoy Sony, who deliberately snatched the opening May weekend before Marvel (who, in recent years, have traditionally occupied that spot) could take it.

An April release just means less time we'll have to wait for the sequel. Looking forward to it. :techman:

Re: Captain America: The First Avenger-Review, Discuss, Grade, Sequel,

Possibly, it was bold to schedule a sequel to Amazing Spiderman that far in advance before the results of this reboot are in yet.

What that means in 2012 is there will be 3 Marvel characters with movies in a 6 weeks time frame. That has yet to happen that I can think of, 3 comic films, yes-- 3from the same parent company/universe in 6 weeks, no.

    April 4 = Cap 2
May 3 = ASM 2(assuming all goes well)
May 16 = Marvel Untitled film (many think it'll be Dr.Strange)

From a comic film standpoint I also find it interesting that Warners has Wonder Woman as tentative for 2014. Despite not making any news about it even from a script or director search, anything.

Can't wait to see Avengers though so we can then have a faint idea of what Captain America 2 might be about!!!

Guess it's just the first time I took note of it(WW film) again since the last Whedon script effort was shelved.

I wouldn't be so sure about that since Black Widow is supposedly appearing in "Iron Man 3":

They'll probably drop little hints about Avengers 2 in all the films coming out before it.

Natasha will be there more for the use in a "love triangle" I think.
Maybe Tony finally coats her gauntlets in gold!!! For better functionality of course.
