"Children of Men" author dies at 94

    More of a mystery novelist, really? Other than The Children of Men, she didn't write any other science-fiction of which I'm aware. (And, having read The Children of Men, perhaps that's for the best.) Still, a loss for the English mystery.

    Yes, a crime novelist, who wrote some of the books that made crime novels respectable as literature... but also not one who had this 'SF is just silly and not worth my time...' attitude, so give her points for that.
    Also, there's some nice photos of her on-set for the Doctor Who story the Happiness Patrol (during her time as one of the BBC's governors), where she said something along the lines of "You're seriously planning to shoot this in three days? And it's on schedule? Good lord, you must know what you're doing, ITV would need twice as long as that for one of my books... and that didn't involve any monsters.")

    The book is one of the worst things I have ever read. It's the only book ever written that the movie is better than it.
