I still haven't seen Ben-Hur, The Ten Commandments, or Cleopatra. A lot of people seem to think those walk on water. Also, I never saw Annie Hall. I didn't appreciate it displacing a certain other film from the Best Picture podium, back when I was in grade school. I still haven't gotten over that.
They can be movies you haven't seen, or movies that were really great but chances are others haven't seen them and you would recommend them. You know I think greatness is in the writing? You can forgive poor execution of great writing, but great execution of poor writing is just - ugh. Oh here's one, a Christopher Walken flick written by William Gibson: New Rose Hotel
I have never seen Titanic or Avatar although I suspect that I wouldn't actually enjoy them. Everyone else seems to think they're the "best" though...
It didn't displace anything. Annie Hall is a much better movie than Star Wars. And I love Star Wars like a little brother. And I haven't seen Casablanca. I mean, I've seen Casablanca the city, but I haven't seen Casablanca the movie.
Not everyone! Avatar's not bad but I hate Titanic. When Sean Connery opened the envelope to name it Best Picture at the Oscars, I actually felt physically unwell. Back in '98, republican paramilitaries blew up our local cinema. The only saving grace was that Titanic was showing there at the time.
Me three. I finally got around to seeing LOTR. I couldn't figure out what all the hoopla was about. I wasn't impressed.
Neither have I. John Ford's The Searchers is high on my must-see list. It's been sitting on my DVR for months now, but I just haven't had time to sit down and check it out. (Too busy keeping up with the latest episodes of my favorite shows.)
I've seen them, and while The Godfather was quite good, I couldn't get into Godfather 2, and Godfather 3 sucked.
I have read the plot synopsis of Titanic and I keep thinking that it would be so much better if it was JUST about the ship sinking. Plus, is it just me, or does the guy who (I'm guessing, since she has children and grandchildren) Rose marries after Jack dies, have the most thankless job in the known universe? Sure, being married to Kate Winslet would be nice, but imagine having to compete with Jack...
Ok granted my title is not clear, but could people suggest more great obscure movies and fewer mediocre famous ones? A "watch" list, not a "do not bother" list. Maybe it's me but most movies are on my "do not bother" list.
I'm confused. You're asking us to recommend obscure movies that we haven't seen? I thought this was about confessing what celebrated classics we've never gotten around to seeing.
