I haven't read it yet but something that struck me watching the Cast Reunion, Wil Weaton could pull off a new Riker in the Abrams-verse. It's not going to happen, but he does kind of look like a young Johnathon Frakes now.
Wil did the voices for all the off-camera Romulan extras on Nero's ship, so he sort of has his foot in the door. Maybe they'll choose him again for anonymous voices.
I enjoyed all of Wheaton's comments in the S2 extras. Seems like a really down to earth (no pun intended) guy and it's neat to hear the perspective from a younger kid on the set back in the day. He had some funny bloopers with Whoopi too.
I think he'd be too recognizable, especially to all us fans, as Wesley Crusher to ever cast him as Will Riker. Likewise, Wil Wheaton is now the age that Frakes was during TNG's season 6, so hardly a "young Jonathan Frakes." That's back when everyone started making fun of him for gaining weight.
