In a new Funny or Die video clip, random people on the street are asked if they care about Spock. The answers of most people stopped might surprise Star Trek fans. Billy Eichner, host of Funny or Die’s Billy on the Street roped in Quinto for a game of “It’s Spock! Do You Care?” in [...] More...
I am hugely disappointed. I thought this thread was going to be about whether we care what happens to Spock Prime in the new timeline.
IMO the only people who really care about trek in any form are the ones who watched it on the telly for years. When the 3rd movie is over most people will quickly forget about JJ's trek and the star tek that came before,I hope i'm wrong but i don't think so.
The actual topic hasn't set off a firestorm of responses so can't we take it there ourselves? I care about Spock Prime. I want never to see him receive the idiot treatment Kirk received in GEN. You Don't Kill Iconic Characters, IMO. What in hell was Shatner thinking? *cue firestorm of on topic responses*
'Don't care' is kind of harsh, but I never really connected with Spock the way so many others did. I was more of a Kirk and Scotty guy.
Ooooooooooooooh Really? So, I'm going to forget Star Trek because I like the Prime TOS movies? . . . . I also like TOS live and animated; and DS9. Mmmmm. . . .
Star Trek won't be forgotten any more than Superman or James Bond. It'll come and go, but it won't die for a long while yet.
I got the distinct impression from reading Star Trek Movie Memories (which was written during production of "Generations") that Shatner didn't take Kirk's death seriously; in other words, that he was still somewhat sure in his own mind that even when they were actually filming his death sequence, Berman and co were actually bluffing and that they'd be calling his agent up about the script to ST VIII any minute now. Certainly IIRC it wasn't long afterwards that he started to make loud noises to the effect that he wanted to resurrect Kirk... strangely enough, that didn't happen (canonically). I honestly can imagine, circa 1998 or so, the realisation finally sinking into his head that... "my God, Bones... what have I done?".
Do I care about Spock Prime? Yes, of course I do! Do I care about NuSpock or any of the NuCharacters? Not really ... the only one I'd hate to see killed off is NuPike.
Do I care about Spock? Yeah. But will others? Depends on the direction they take this new Spock. I like Nimoy's interpretation of Spock because he always played that character with a little bit of vulnerability...something I think we all feel. Hell, I can't tell you how many times I've felt like a Vulcan in a Human world... Now if JJ decides to explore Spock's "Dark Side" of dealing with emotions, I'm out. I'm sick and tired of the negativity and sarcastic attitude of our culture. Jesus, there are nice people out there and watching all these movies and makes you think there's not a decent soul left on Earth. Sorry, on flu medication tonight....continue...
That's so true, just look at me. I'm like super nice and super sarcastic. It's a perfect fusion, like pineapple and hot sauce.
