    Some people love it.

I found it a deeply flawed work.

It wasn't a problem with the artwork; the painted style came in for criticism, but I enjoyed it.

Rather, it was a story problem. For one thing, the plot didn't make a lot of sense. For another thing, Picard and the Doctor were largely reacting to events passively. Characterizations were terrible. The writers never figured out what to do with Rory and Amy. I kept waiting for something shocking and mind-boggling to happen. It never did.

I'd say the story is one of the dull, talky bottle shows Star Trek: The Next Generation did, with the Doctor as the main guest star.

A missed opportunity, in my opinion.

^Total agreement, but it should be pointed out that there is some fun flashback sequences in this series and a nice solid peek at the Deltans' home world. May be worth checking out for these bits alone.

It was fun. I'm not sure I can fairly expect more than that from a one-off.

    I have never read it.

Maybe adding Arthur Dent and Ford Prefect would have made it better. :)

    Quiz Question: (No prizes)

Where in Dr Who is HHGTTG mentioned?

I think there's been more than one reference, but the most recent one was a mention of a Hooloovoo in "The Rings of Akhaten."

    Didn't know of that one.

I can't think of 2 fairly blatant ones.
One of which should be known to all.

The Doctor says Arthur Dent is a nice guy in "The Christmas Invasion."

Back in, I think, "Destiny of the Daleks," the Doctor has a copy of one of Oolon Colluphid's books. (Colluphid wrote a series of books about the origins of the universe and how blindingly dumb God was.)

It's okay to end a sentence with a preposition. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. :)

It's also perfectly okay to split an infinitive.

A lot of the grammar rules we know that go against the way we actually use the English language -- don't end sentences with prepositions, don't split infinitives -- aren't natural. They're 19th-century creations that were designed 1) to force English to be more regulated like a Romance language and 2) to separate the educated from the uneducated. In short, some of these unnatural grammar rules are linguistic snobbery.
