San Francisco was also attacked by a giant monster (courtesy of the late Ray Harryhausen) in 1955's It Came From Beneath the Sea, just a year after the original Godzilla. In fact, the giant octopus in that film was irradiated and driven from its normal feeding grounds by the exact same Marshall Islands nuclear tests that drove Godzilla from his (and that inspired the making of the film in the first place).
Here is a clip of a scene being filmed. http://vancityfilming.com/godzilla-video-of-the-scene-from-steveston/
I wonder if the writers chose San Francisco as some type of homage to one of the inpiration for Godzilla?
^As I said, ICFBtS came out the year after Godzilla, so the movie itself was not an inspiration. Rather, the two films were independently inspired by the real-life phenomenon of the Marshall Islands H-bomb tests.
I guess San Fran is the most movie iconic, photogenic Pacific Rim US city. Godzilla coming ashore by Santa Monica pier isn't quite as beautiful as Godzilla and Golden Gate Bridge
Whenever monsters or alien invaders attack the continental US, the Golden Gate Bridge is usually their prime target after the Statue of Liberty.
Director Gareth Edwards setting up a special eefects shot. It looks like Godzilla, or one of the other monsters, will be chewing on atrain.
I do feel good that not all special effects will be CGI. It seems like we will get a mixture of CGI and practicle effects.
Yeah, I'm also glad to see that they will be some practical effects in there with the CG stuff. I've noticed that it seems like more film makers are starting to go back to having a combination of the two, instead of just doing everything digitally.
Cool article with pics. About a place in Canada transformed into a fishing village where Godzilla attacked. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...rauding-beast-recreated-Canada-new-movie.html
http://yvrshoots.com/2013/05/shoot-...-centre-as-japanese-international-school.html Scene being filmed with Japanes children (mostly) being evacuated from a school. This confirms that a portion of the movie does take place in Japan.
More shots from filming. It seems Godzilla will be attacking the Golden Gate Bridge. He was going to attack that bridge in the 1994 American Godzilla movie that never was produced. http://yvrshoots.com/2013/05/shoot-...-bridge-set-with-inflatable-greenscreens.html
According to Godzilla-Movies.com, Michael Giacchino is going to do the musical score of the movie. http://www.godzilla-movies.com/news/854 I've been hoping for Giacchino all along. His "Roar" piece from "Cloverfield" is a fantastic hommage to the stuff Akira Ifukube did. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-xhIX4qr9JI
