I just stumbled across the Chicago Comic Con website and decided it would be a lot of fun to go. My go-to nerd friend is going to a wedding that weekend, so he can't accompany me. I still want to try and go, so I posted something on my Facebook account to see if anyone would be interested.

Turns out a lot of people are closet nerds! I have never felt this popular. Everybody wants to go!

It's cool to be a nerd these days. Computers, video games, comic books, Internet humor--these all used to be the domain of the nerd, and now they're mainstream.

Fortunately the days of the Trekkie basement dwelling virgin cliche are a thing of the past.

It's so exciting! I feel like I'm living in some kind of nerd renaissance.

We do have a lot of virgins here, but also a ton of people who have had lots of sex--and have the kids to prove it. :p

Just like anything else, business has seen that 'nerds' make money in their tech jobs and want a piece of that.

And that's how we wound up with tons of CS graduates and paper MCSEs who can barely tie their shoes. They are weeded out pretty quick, though. :techman:

^Well, sure. I'm now wondering what branch of Burger King all those guys who did 'Information Systems' who kept trying to cheat off of me work at now.

(Though one of them now drives a Tesco van and delivers my Internet grocery orders)

The basement-dwelling virgin fan is like bigfoot. Maybe he exists, but I've never actually met one. And they get written up way out of proportion to their actual numbers.

Actual sightings are few and far between . . . .

That's because they're, ya know, hiding in their basements.

I don't even have a basement! I remember a house I stayed in for a few days when I was a kid had a wine cellar, that's about it!
