Hey guys, Terminator 2 is my favourite film of all time. I've loved it since I first saw it as a kid. It's such a great science-fiction story, great characters, great action scenes.

I just wanted to know if any of the diehard science-fiction fans on here disliked it or hated it. Also, I'd love to hear why.

It's enjoyable despite making you want to drown Edward Furlong in a river.

If someone claimed they were a diehard SF/F fan and also said they hated T2, I would happily throw them into a pit of molten lava like the T1000 for being an absolute goon.
    ;)

Personally I think it's one of the best films ever made. I could see how someone might not love it, just think it was ok.
As for hating it... well I'm sure there are plenty who wouldn't enjoy it. Those not fans of the action/SF genre at all, like a sterotypical 80 year old woman, or a sterotypical woman who only likes rom-coms etc

Yup, Edward Furlong is the only complaint I can remember ever hearing from a SciFi fan about T2

The only thing I didn't like about the film was John Connor. He was annoying throughout the entire movie. At least we got Linda Hamilton, in probably her best film of her career, so that made up for it.

    It's an enjoyable film.

It's flaws become more apparent with every watch, it's cloyingly sentimental, the dialogue is badly written and the second act is too long and slow, but when it's firing on all cylinders, it's breathtakingly exciting, Arnie is a joy to watch, and it contains some of the greatest action sequences ever committed to film.

I liked it, but I thought Terminator 1984 was a much better movie. T2 was a case where the budget hurt the movie. The set-piece action sequences were not tied together well with story. It's also overlong and even somewhat dated now, 22 years later.

I ranked T2 number 14 in my top 15 sf movies of the 1990s:

    1990s:

    1. The Matrix(1999)
    2. Contact(1997)
    3. ST:First Contact(1996)
    4. Twelve Monkeys(1995)
    5. Dark City(1998)
    6. Gattaca(1997)
    7. Jurassic Park(1993)
    8. Strange Days(1995)
    9. The Truman Show(1998)
    10. Total Recall(1990)
    11. Men In Black(1997)
    12. Fifth Element(1997)
    13. The Thirteenth Floor(1999)
    14. Terminator II(1991)
    15. Galaxy Quest(1999)

It's not a patch on the genuinely scary first movie, but it's pretty damned good !

Terrible movie. All it has going for it is some innovative special effects. The bonding moments between Ed Furlong and Arnie make the movie almost unwatchable. I have not watched another one of the franchise since.

T2 is a great film, really the only flaw it has is that it’s not as good as The Terminator.

I don't usually like violent movies where a lot of people end up dead... but I did enjoy the first two Terminator movies.

For me the significance of T2 was the advent of the morphing Terminator. That was the first time I had ever seen that particular special effect in any form, and I was completely impressed.

Cameron used a similar sort of effect in The Abyss in '89, that was the first time I saw that liquid morphing effect on the big screen, but T2 really made spectacular use of it.
