After having so many starships named enterprise, will Starfleet ever retire the name or because of the history of every ship to bear the name they will continue to name starships enterprise?.
I hate when they name ships after presidents, states and cities. Where's the imagination? Where's the creativity, I ask you ... ? Maybe they should give ENTERPRISE a rest and start calling it something else. Something flashy ... something sexy ...
STAR TREK IV: The Voyage Home has proven otherwise. Mind you, they did name their new ship after a Paper Towel.
Then they should rename other iconic Star Trek things after household products. I vote that the transporter be changed to "The Quicker Picker Upper."
Corporate sponsors are all the rage these days. I think the next Federation flagship should definitely be called 'USS Tampax.'
Personally, I don't think the NCC-1701 registry will ever reach that far (that could be many centuries after TNG), but the Enterprise name will definitely continue but with a new registry (possibly a NCV registry).
I would say that if the future Captains just suck, nobody will associate the name Enterprise with something good. The Enterprises had the luck to be commanded by Kirk and Picard.
Yes, but only because Starfleet was enduring crippling budget cuts in the aftermath of the Klingon truce, and Harriman was really good at leaving spacedock without expensive critical equipment. Fleet Command saved a fortune on that guy.
