Burt Lancaster and Ava Gardner in The Killers (1946)--a quintessential film noir:

I like this photo because it too contains so many noir elements: high-contrast lighting, shadows, the anti-hero, and the femme fatale whose machinations doom them both. :)

Mildred Pierce, currently being remade by HBO with Kate Winslet.

You know--ordinarily, I would have groaned and rolled my eyes at this news. A remake of Mildred Pierce? With Kate Winslet in the Joan Crawford role? Puh-leeze.

But--a five-hour HBO miniseries? This I have to see. :techman:

Kate Winslet as Mildred? How old was she when Veda was born? 12?

Well, if you go by their RL ages, yes.

But Angela Lansbury was only three years older than Laurence Harvey when she played his mother in The Manchurian Candidate. And nobody ever found that strange. So obviously, a lot will depend on the quality of her performance.

Connery's only about 5 years older than Harrison, yet he played Indy's Dad in Last Crusade...go fig.
