Aww come on did we really need this? A prequel to The Thing? Really? Can they really not spend their money on something original? Or give it to Haiti instead of wasting time with this?

Man, had almost forgot about this movie. http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=79822 New trailer looks pretty decent... although I was kinda hoping they would do more than just tell the same basic story again. I'm not really getting much of an 80s vibe from it either.
It's supposed to be a prequel, but it looks pretty modern to me. I guess Mary Elizabeth Winstead is the "Kurt Russell" character or at least the equivalent to.
Don't mind a Thing movie of some kind but a prequel and specifically this non-suspenseful story are idiotic.
This looks less like a prequel and more like...the same movie a second time over. It may not be that, but the trailer sure is hitting the beats that are the same as Carpenter's version pretty hard. And it doesn't look especially 80s, either.
Dare we say...a re-imagining...or even a reboot, in order to make a "remake" of the 1982 film after this one. RAMA
It looks OK, but way too close to the original based on how the trailer was cut - hope that's all it is. Still looking forward to some arctic horror goodness and seeing how those damn Swedes get their shit wrecked. M.E.W. is sweet, though. I always enjoy her.
Watching the trailer made me think that it might be a "preboot", with a proper remake of Carpenter's version being a notional sequel. Whatever its nature, I'm interested.
The term they were throwing around is 'premake'. I'm getting a Dawn of the Dead remake vibe from it. Not necessarily a bad thing.
