Well, at least this might net us a decent special edition of the original on Blu-ray. Not much hope other than that.
Anybody else remember the original novelization by Skipp & Spector? I think I still have a copy in a box somewhere . . . .
I read the novel before I saw the movie. And several times afterwards. The novel made me want to see the movie, so goal accomplished there.
When people post a thread like this here instead of SF&F, I hate them a little bit. Just so you know. Not out of a fetish for categorization, but because I like seeing them in my forum. Anyway, I like Greg's idea of Robert Englund. I think Lee's probably too old for the physicality, but I suppose you never know. He seems like a healthy guy. I don't see the point of making it 3D, though.
Elvira...that's who should be the horror host. John C. Reilly? This is gonna be a comedy remake right? There's always Michael Caine. "What you 'ave 'ere, lad, is an actually vampire." Or Peter O'Toole. "These things wiped out the dinosaurs, who were pretty tough fucking customers!"
Yelchin should play the vampire. Pretty much any competent under eighteen actor could do the juvenile lead. The kid from Breaking Bad comes to mind, he does a terrific job as a cerebral palsy victim. R.J. Mitte? Screw the Peter Vincent role. That kind of Vincent Price plumminess is hard to come by, outdated and not intrinsically necessary. The real difficulty, which I'm surprised you guys didn't notice, is casting Evil Ed.
David Tennant to be Peter Vincent http://www.heatvisionblog.com/2010/06/doctor-who-and-red-mist-join-fright-night-exclusive.html I am officially excited for this movie.
I'm not overly familiar with Tennant, but isn't 39 a little young to be a washed up, has been movie star? Maybe not, but I think Peter would be better as someone with some years on him. The more I think about it, Robert Englund would have been perfect.
Exactly, he's going to be horror-themed Vegas magician, not an aging horror movie star. Probably not a bad way to bring the material up to date. For better or for worse, late night horror movie hosts aren't really part of the culture anymore. It would have dated the remake.

Anton Yelchin is playing Charlie Brewster. I wonder who will be cast as Charlie's girlfriend Amy, his best friend Evil, vampire Jerry Dandridge, Billy Cole, who was Jerry's human watchdog, & Peter Vincent?
