    Hmm...

I actually like the first one a bit better (and of course, the only member of the DS9 cast in this tale is Bashir) but good work nonetheless!

    I approve. :techman:

Just finished Chapter 11. Been unable to read much the last few days, too busy with real-life things. But I have the next two days off, so hopefully I can finish it up.

Glad to see my suspicions about Holland and 31 were correct.

    Really, REALLY loved this....

    Oh, the possibilities! :)

Just finished it. Well done, sir, well done!

Haven't read the alternate ending yet, but will do so shortly.

Not having read the novels, I can't speak authoritatively on them, but based on what I've read here, I greatly appreciate that you've made 31 very "disturbingly efficient." If the books are making them appear incompetent, then I'll be sorely disappointed. I mean, come on, Sloan was always at least five steps ahead of a genetically engineered genius. That's why I have problems with Extreme Measures. Sloan could transport into Bashir's quarters at will without him or the station's sensors being aware of it and yet he doesn't know that a forcefield and phaser are waiting for him? :wtf: It makes me think that he wanted to be caught.

Definitely looking forward to your Section 31 tale in involving Holland and her backstory, as I doubt that would contain any spoilers for the novels, which again I haven't read.

    Now, just some quick observations....

    1.)
    Very Connery of you....

    :techman:

    2.)
I have an idea as to who it could be. ;)

3.) An idea occurs to me as to what the "big event in DS9" is that ties in with Holland's backstory.

She says that she witnessed the Bureau do something awful "five years ago." That would roughly put it around the time of the Tal Shiar's and Obsidian Order's failed attack on the Founder's homeworld. Could 31 have been involved?

Looking forward to finding out if my theory is correct. :)

    Thank you, sir! :techman:

Looking forward to your review! :)

Shran, I strongly recommend for you my tale "Passing Of Value", in this same forum. It was an entry for a challenge a couple years ago, it focuses on what made Sloan the man we know and love-to-love/hate--and in the end, I actually address--

Wait. I don't want to give too much away....

    I'll get to it....

Absolutely. Also, the scene where Julian walks into Cynthia's bathroom is also based loosely on Connery's Bond doing the same thing to Fiona in Thunderball. "OH!" "Hello...."

Fiona was one of my all-time favorite Bond Girls--while we're at it, so was Domino. In a sense, Cynthia is my taking the best elements of both (Domino's romanticism and "innocence with a backbone", plus Fiona's femme fatale, somewhat exotic nature) and combining them into a new whole, adding the complexity of her tragic past.

(snicker) I'm not talking...yet. But I'd like to hear your theory--perhaps a PM is in order? :)

I will, at the very least, say that you're warm--in a sense which I won't flat-out reveal. I will say that this tale is set sometime after Trill: Unjoined--which was in late 2376. I'm not sure if it's before or after the Mirror Universe tale. It's during a "quiet period" in the DS9-Relaunch era. I'd say...late '76, or early '77. Cynthia's rounding up.

But I did give something of a clue, with the working title I gave for the 31 tale....

    Interesting possibility.

The Bureau could have been involved in a great deal there - from Odo's infection (obviously) to the Leyton Affair itself.

And now.... From Risa With Love lyrics....

From Risa with love I warp to you
Much wiser since my goodbye to her
I've traveled the quadrant to learn
I must return from Risa with love.

I've seen places, faces and smiled for a moment
But oh, she still haunts me so
Still my tongue tied, enhanced pride
Would not let my love for you show
I case you'd also say no.

To Risa I warped but there and then
I suddenly knew you'd care again.
Is my running around through? No!
I warp to you, from Risa with love!

I realize that this was posted months ago, thank you so much for recommending this! You are a fantastic writer, more Cynthia and Bashir! I really enjoy the action sequences and snappy dialogue.
    You are good!

I finally got a chance to read and finish this great piece!

As always, you have a great ear for dialogue. A lot of the exposition is done via dialogue, which I have to say is usually my preference. After all, that's more of what life is truly like, where we learn from what people tell us, in addition to our own personal observations.

Well done and of course it makes the reader wonder about a sequel.

Ah, I read them in the wrong order. Now they make more sense to me. :)
