So we have FX, writing, sound tracks and many other great parts to scifi/fantasy movies. But what song, made famous on the radio, do you think is the best song to come from a sci/fi--fantasy movie? It has to having singing, so no straigh instrumentals.

And NO James Bond songs qualify (nice try Brits!)

From Starship Troopers-can't remember the artist or the name-just remember it starts with crashing guitars and "Weehoo!" - but its a legit tune, I've heard it on KROQ.

You just gave me another reason to watch that movie again, so I will. I hope its on BLURAY.

The soundtrack of Heavy Metal, esp. "Veteran of the Psychic Wars"...

    Enya? *ducks*

And while it's not quite the same question, my favorite uses of an existing pop song in a genre production are "It's the End of the World and We Know It [and I Feel Fine] by REM in Independence Day, "Don't Fear the Reaper" by Blue Öyster Cult from The Stand miniseries, and "It's a Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong from the end of the Beeb Hitchhiker's series... :D

Jesus, forgot about BOC. "You see me now , a veteran, of a thousand psychic wars..." If we're holding a poll this gets first vote and The Mob Rules gets second.:bolian:

    Song 2, by Blur.

Also Gun's version of Word Up from that movie is good.

Not a radio hit, but for my money "One More Kiss Dear" from Blade Runner is one of the best tracks to feature in a sci-fi movie.

Massive radio hit, A Kind of Magic is another big favourite of mine.

Is that really in Starship Troopers? Wow, have to go rewatch. What scene?

Cheesy, but I always thought Aerosmith's "Don't Want to Miss a Thing" from Armageddon was a pretty cool tune. Great fun to OTT karaoke too...

Don't know, I never noticed it either. But from his description it sounded like Song 2, so I checked the wiki entry for Song 2 and it says it was in used for TV spots for the movie.

Doesn't actually say it was in the movie though.

Dunno if that was in the movie, but definitely remember it from the trailers...

Another suggestion: "Mad World" by Michael Andrews. Was used in the last few scenes from Donnie Darko.

Oh right, I see. I didn't think it was in the movie itself. Would have been cool though. Actually, using Park Life while they're running around shooting bugs in that outpost would have been perfect... :D

I'm not 100% sure, but I think it was used in the commercials for the movie but I don't think it was used in the movie.

"We Don't Need Another Hero," by Tina Turner, from Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome.

"Kiss from a Rose" by Seal. Used in Batman Forever, although it first appeared on Seal's album, Seal II.

As I was recently reminded in "Zombieland"----The Ray Parker Jr. song, "Ghostbusters" from the movie.

Evanescene's "Bring Me to Life," that was used in "Daredevil."

Not exactly a hit, but "Science Fiction Double Feature" from Rocky Horror Picture Show. Very sweet and nostalgic (and getting moreso every year).

And several other songs from that movie, too.

Who wants to live forever, by Queen (Highander)
It Can't Rain All the Time, by Jane Siberry (The Crow)
Power of Love, by Huey Lewis and the News (Back to the Future)

Although my ultimate favourite use of a song in a movie would be:

Dies Irae (Requiem: kv626), by WA Mozart (X2)
