This is a little idea of my own universe I've been working on for along time.
And to start of here a look at a rebuild of an old mesh that I've started. This will be a large communicationa array. Also known as the GFD.

For some reason I lost my last save for this thing so I had to go back and redo detail on the back of the saucer and remake the braces on the back. They’re a little thinner than the old ones but these turned out nice.

Started on the textures for the dish. Still need to add a few things.

So this is not trek derived? What do the United Earth ships look like? How do they function?

No, not Trek in any way. I wasn't sure if I should have posted here or not but I've seen a few others post non-Trek work. I'll post more when I get the chance.

    Thank you.

    UPDATE...
This is the unfinished texture for the back of the small dish.
I’ve got the dishs pretty much placed as I want them I just need to make a few changes and some more textures so they don’t all look the same.
Here’s what the back of the dishs look like with the old skeleton that connects them together.
This will probably be the new skeleton that will hold all the smaller dishs together. I’ll thicken it up a little bit.

    Wow, that's awesome. :)

Is it going to have habitable sections, or is it more like a big satellite?

Yes it will have a habitable section.
This is what the old unfinished version looked like.

That is a very spiffy space station you got there. Kind of reminds me of one of my favorite Sternbach book covers from the '70s (http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1286899152l/2674050.jpg).

What kind of stories are you going to have take place in the UEG universe? Hard SF? Straignt-out space opera?

Since I'm not bright enough to do Hard SF, space opera it is. :D

Hers are a fewother things I'm working on.
This another ship I've started to rebuild. This picture is the old version
    [IMG]
And this is what I've redone for it so far. Not much done on the history of this species yet but I want them to be insectiod.

The large communications array looks like a large mobile subspace radio, if those things at the back of the habitable section are engines. The blue registration and marking seems to recall the UE of the Star Trek universe, but the shape of the vessel makes it clear that this is another universe altogether.

I'm really glad that I asked you to post your UEG stuff here, because I don't remember seeing that other vessel before.

It is basicly a large subspace radio but not mobile in any way. It normally would end up being towed into place. The colors and markings are ment to feel like the UN.
This is a companion piece the the large dish. This normaly close to a planet. This is an old pic of the original and I've yet to restart it.

And this is the only ship I've finished so far.

The history is kind of rough at the moment.
The M'Aangan race is the first exra-terrestrial life form encountered by the Human race. This encounter took place a few years after the Explorer class ship Christopher Columbuswas thought lost to an explosion. This explosion, instead of destroying the Columbus opened a hole in space and sucked the Columbus into M'Aangan occupied terratory.
After floating nearly dead in space for 18 months a M'Aangan freighter found the ship and towed it back to the nearest inhabited world. Over several months the crew of the Columbus, still kept alive by their failing cryotubes are revived and their ship repared with the addition of Earths first FTL drive. This drive will become known as a jump engine.
The first use of this Jump engine will return the Columbus and her crew to Earth escorted by two Ships of the Royal M'Aangan Navy. Shortly after these incidents the United Earth Government is formed and the M'Aangan become it's greatest ally.

The M'Aangan are a humanoid race. The males are an average height of 8 feet and the females are an average height of 7 feet. Both sexes have deep blue eyes and long black hair, the males keep there hair tied back. They are considered beautiful by many but this could be caused by a pheromone that adjusts to whatever race might be near. They have a very limited control over this pheromone and it is not sex specific. Meaning a male pheromone
can effect either male or female of another race. One of the few known races that this has no effect on is the Sckrow, a small reptilian race. Because of this the Sckrow hate the M'Aangans since they believe the M'Aangan are doing it delibratly.

Normaly a very open race who freely gives it technology to other races. The one thing unknown about their technology is their fighter craft. Pilots for these fighters have never been seen. This leads many to believe that the ships are piloted by remote or have a biolagical brain that is grown within the ship. These fighters have no FTL drive but when needed several of these fighters can be attached to an external FTL drive. This device is called the death blossom. These ships normaly work in groups of five or more.
The weapon systems of thses ships can be slaved together to hit a single target. One ship will move forward of the rest and paint a target. All other ships will lock to this target automaticly. This can effectivly keep the other ships at a safe enough distance while fireing. This can also be used for recon by sending the intelligence to the support craft.

    UPDATE...
Well I decided to have every other dish facing the other way. Just think it looks better. I also added guide wires now all I need to do is texture the support structure.
Started to get work done on the large dish.

Curious, what's the scale of the structure? The habitable part looks to have many tiny windows or are those just lights?

Those are lights. At the time that I first built these I wasn't even thinking about scale. But now that's changed so I haven't come up with an exact scale yet.
