I've always thought foreign covers were much more interesting when it comes to science-fiction books... even British covers top most American ones. I prefer minimalist designs, though. There's no need to have 40000 things to look at one the cover. I also hate floating heads, but that's a Trek book staple.
Some of the covers are better, such as Before Dishonor(Heldentod) and the aforementioned A Stitch in Time. But I'm not a fan of the Destiny cover on the first page for example and am left puzzled what Mirror Ezri is doing on the front of the DS9 Section 31 book.
Yeah, because of the way Japanese is printed alot of the Star Wars book are spilt in half, and some of the double covers they use are gorgeous. Here are some examples.
Now that is pretty, and it's nice getting a face for Choudhury (That's been something of a complaint of mine since the introduction of main characters created in the books, barring New Frontier, that we don't get faces for the names). Also, I like that there isn't the crashed Enterprise in the background, which I never understood on the US release.
That one seems to have more of an impact. One of the people in the background looks a little bit like Data.
It looks like they used a shot from Insurrection for the people in the background, everyone leaving their homes...but it is very well done.
Oh, I thought maybe it was meant to be Kadohata at first, but I guess those are lieutenant's pips and security gold, so it must be Choudhury. I like it. A very striking face.
first person who came to mind was Linda Park (Hoshi Sato-ENT) maybe its just me but they're freakishly alike. completely off topic, but those are some incredibly sad eyes...
Wow, very cool cover. I like that Choudhury, although I got her totally wrong. For some reason I was picturing her as looking Indian or Middle Eastern.
I also thought Linda Park, you're not alone. It looks like they photoshopped her face into being a little thinner and made the lips a lot thicker, but it could easily be Linda underneath all that work.
Choudhury is Indian, so it's perfectly natural that you'd picture her that way. I agree with ares93 that there's a resemblance to Linda Park, but it's a first draft -- and I can see some signs around her chin that the image has been altered from a photograph -- so maybe it's still in progress and the final version will look more Indian.
Now that's a good cover (except for the colors having to be re-calibrated). I don't even have an idea who the woman is, since I haven't read Destiny or any of the TNG relaunch/Titan novels, but the cover still grabs my attention... I think it would even grab my attention if I had no idea who Picard or Worf were!
FWIW as I said it's a first draft, and they have already said in the comment section on facebook where they posted the cover that Data won't be on the final cover and that they aren't 100 % happy with the model for Choudhoury.
Wow, $20? Maybe I should dig out my copy and put it on ebay or something. Probably won't read it again (not a huge fan), and if it's going for that kinda money, it'll buy the next couple books for me...
indian as in native american of indian as in from india? i have to admit i've always pictured her as a brit, or at least with british ancestry. then again, it been quite while since i read the TNG books. but Choudhury still has a british ring to it, at least for me.
