Are we sure its just the Kelvin when Nero arrives? or is it a small group of ships that the Kelvin hangs back to provide cover fire for as they Warp away?

I've been torn between reading too much and too little before I see the film, but that line moved me to know more.

The Kelvin feels like one of those ships whose toy will be more popular in some circles than the Enterprise's.

Didn't Winona Kirk remain alive up to the TOS era in the novels of the 80s and 90s?

Where is Kirk's brother through all of this? Is he even in the movie?

My guess is some actor will play him in a brief appearance when Kirk is growing up or leaving for the Academy...that, or he'll be mentioned if nothing else. Too many fans both hardcore and passing remember Kirk had an older brother.

But isn't Sam older than James? So wouldn't he be around on the Kelvin when it goes down?

The big question is, does Lil' Sam also have a cheesy mustache to distinguish between him and Lil' Jim? IT'S CANON OMG.

If Kirk's mom had lived, I would think that she would have been the one who raised him, not loser abusive drunk Uncle Frank.

My favorite George Kirk was Diane Carey's.

Sam was supposed to be older, even if the only visual evidence was the cheesy porno moustache in "Operation--Annihilate." :p In TV you normally denote age and/or seniority by how much clothing...facial hair...that sort of thing. So my guess is that Sam is probably at least a few years older than James and would probably already be off at university or some other school by the time his brother entered Starfleet.

She could survive the Kelvin's destruction only to be eventually killed by Kodos the Executioner, thus Druncle Frank steps in and raises Jimmy.

Which would mean Kirk's upbringing wasn't that different this time around...so there'd have to be some other reason he's a loser.

Yeah, but if she were killed at the command of Kodos, wouldn't Kirk have made a bigger deal of it in "Conscience of the King"? Instead of "all those people" it would have been "...and for the love of God, Bones...my OWN MOTHER!"

I mean, you really can't separate it when it hits that close to home.
