So, I'm looking at bol.com, seeing what novels they sell by our own Christopher L Bennett. And I see this entry, which supposedly will be released in august 2012. http://www.bol.com/nl/p/engelse-boeken/star-trek-seek-a-newer-world/1001004009798382/index.html Now, unless I'm mistaken, this was going to be Bennett's nuTrek novel, but they were all cancelled.... right??
Re: Star Trek: Seek A Newer World by Christopher Bennett for august 20 Could be a change of policy - now they have the direction of the new film they know what they can release without contradicting the movie...
Re: Star Trek: Seek A Newer World by Christopher Bennett for august 20 It must be a glitch in their catalog. Probably the sort of thing where the computer form needs some date entered for an unscheduled book and some placeholder or other is put in. To the best of my knowledge, there are still no plans to release the book. What language is that, Dutch? Hmm, I guess so, since it mentions "Nederland" at the bottom.
Re: Star Trek: Seek A Newer World by Christopher Bennett for august 20 It's probably just another case of a retailer's CMS requiring some sort of release date, so they made one up. We already have Eternal Tide slated for August; releasing two high-profile novels in one month would be weird. Edit: There's "nl" in the URL, which is the country code for the Netherlands.

Re: Star Trek: Seek A Newer World by Christopher Bennett for august 20 Yup, Dutch site. Tis a pity really. Would have loved a second Bennett novel this year. Although I suppose with Only Superhuman, we have two novels to look forward too. BTW, tonight I'm starting Ex Machina. It's one of those mustreadbutneverhaveyet Trek books for me. Can't wait. Going to watch TMP first though. Love that movie.
Re: Star Trek: Seek A Newer World by Christopher Bennett for august 20 Pity - got my hopes up there...
Re: Star Trek: Seek A Newer World by Christopher Bennett for august 20 They should had wrote some Robau/Kirk's Dad books, those would had been relativly safe.
Re: Star Trek: Seek A Newer World by Christopher Bennett for august 20 I'm still amazed we haven't gotten any Kelvin stories, to me that just screams for either comics or novels.
Re: Star Trek: Seek A Newer World by Christopher Bennett for august 20 I imagine Pocket books aren't eager to even risk having another novel pulled by Bad Robot. So I think they'll keep away from featuring any of the last movie's creations, irrespective of timelines and continuities, sequels or prequels. Bad Robot made Captain Robau, they probably want the same kind of control over him that they do all of their stuff.
Re: Star Trek: Seek A Newer World by Christopher Bennett for august 20 Why would they care? He is dead and Kirk can Starfleet Academy adventures according to Bad Robot.
Re: Star Trek: Seek A Newer World by Christopher Bennett for august 20 That they killed him off is irrelevent. He's their character, and I'm guessing from the cancellation of the nuTrek sequel books, that they don't want people playing with their creations (or their versions of established Trek characters) without direct oversight. That oversight which I'm guessing is the reason for the delays in the Starfleet Academy young adult books?
Re: Star Trek: Seek A Newer World by Christopher Bennett for august 20 What is preventing them from having direct oversight over a Robau book?
Re: Star Trek: Seek A Newer World by Christopher Bennett for august 20 Really not interested in Robeau. Maybe that's just me...
Re: Star Trek: Seek A Newer World by Christopher Bennett for august 20 I imagine keeping an eye on a 350 page novel, with all the myriad details within, is a LOT more involved than doing so over a 20 page comic, or even a 200 page young adult novel with a huge font. "Voyages of Imagination" is packed with stories of authors frustrated by changes requested by Gene Rodenberry and Richard Arnold. Since then, Trek books have gotten noticably longer. This is, of course, supposition. The reasons for the lack of nuTrek related novels from Pocket books may be something totally different.
Re: Star Trek: Seek A Newer World by Christopher Bennett for august 20 Maybe no one has pitched one, rather than the editors saying they don't want any Robau novels. Yet. Also, there's every possibility one of JJ's movie sequels could have flashback scenes re Robau and George & Winona's time on the Kelvin.
Re: Star Trek: Seek A Newer World by Christopher Bennett for august 20 Nobody controls Captain Robau, they're just good at guessing what he was about to do anyway.
