FYI: TrekCore posted the pictures of the baby from the TWOK magazine special on Twitter today. It seems it is not Khan's baby (despite the caption from the magazine), rather, it was supposed to a baby from another of his followers.

TWOK expert John Tenuto chimed in on it and said he's asked about it when interviewing Nick Meyer.

While that answer is not definitive, Tenuto has made a project to find all production information on TWOK, he's interviewed Meyer multiple times, and has had access to Meyers personal notes, etc.

Hmm... in his twit John Tenuto says "We have about 15 pictures of that scene". It would be nice if he shared them!

Turns out the ONE scene I always wanted to see was listed way back on page one of this thread- Khan's final reaction shot. I always felt a perfect ending of the battle scene was to have Khan see the Enterprise hit Warp just before the device exploded- a flicker in the eyes, knowing that once again Kirk escaped...

This is a great thread- took a while to go through and well worth it!

It wasn't specified anywhere who were the parents of the child-at-the-window, nor the child in the transporter, but there was, at some point, meant to be a young Khan child in this story. A prop was created, but ultimately unused: a painting of Marla, in self-portrait, with Khan and a child.

Complicating matters further was the fact that Judson Scott and Ricardo Montalban got together before filming, to rehearse their scenes together, and - in ignorance of the writers' intentions - developed the concept/backstory that Joachim was Khan's son. Scott talked about it at a Brisbane convention in the 80s, and later in "Starlog".

This is what Mr. Tenuto said, but it doesn't change much:

"My communication with Mr. Meyer revealed that the idea of the baby was to show that Khan's people were trying to endure, to live a life and continue despite their circumstances. The baby and the Genesis device scene would have reinforced the idea that Khan cost his people their future by his obsession, but it did not work, and those scenes were edited from the final version."

I guess no picture of the "family portrait" has ever been available, right?

Or how about just make it a link? :)

Also, the wormhole image you put up there is one *I* put up on here a while ago. I married the Cinefex text to the image I was given. Here's the original post (link).

I found out that a similar picture (with much less red) was used on the cover of issue 10 of Enterprise Incidents.

Holy crap, those are two consecutive frames of footage! And personally I like the coloring more on the EI example.

Hmm, Captain Bearclaw perhaps you own a little apology to Maurice for using his picture without mentioning the source...

Those unused frames look so much better, and so much less like the ship flying through an oscilloscope bg.

There's definetly some things mentioned from the TMP workprint that I think would have made it either a big hit... or a big flop.

Just think about it, if the extraneous effects sequences and Jerry Goldsmith music were replaced with cheap practical/optical effects and a cheesy Ken Thorne/disco music source, we might have an entirely different movie! People would scrutinize the live action scenes and... some of the inherent goofiness might come out. It might be a day that lives in infamy for Star Trek fans.

Just the kinda thing that comes into my mind when I watch the TMP NATO trailer.

Like? I specifically mean the "hit".
