Well, that's certainly a generic synopsis. Does anything there distinguish the movie from any other action blockbuster being released in the next twenty-minutes-to-ten-years? ;)

My initial thought is that it sounds like a Starfleet officer has attained superpowers and turned against his own people.

Detonated the fleet? As in blown it up? The whole fleet?

    This is turning into Treklit.

If Admiral Leonard James Akaar shows up from the future with Picard and Crusher's baby, I'm out.

A personal score to settle - wait we're getting another gods-damned revenge story? I've honestly lost count of how many revenge Trek films in a row there have been...

No strange new worlds or new life and new civilization?

Yeah, detonated is a strange word choice there. Other than that, it's pretty vague. Hopefully though, this signals the beginning of some sort of advertising build up. Who knows, maybe in a few more weeks, we might even get an official poster.

Yep. I wonder who that might be? :D

It sounds like the kind of very simple premise that lends itself to putting butts in seats. You could practically convey the idea via a poster. That's a good thing - ideally, the next movie needs to be an even bigger hit than the last one, and it doesn't pay to confuse the casual audience who has probably already forgotten the 2009 movie. Just give them something simple that promises to be exciting and fun.

Waiting for the interwebs to implode with this vague synopsis.

You know what will make me happy reading this synopsis. If they did throw a bone to the 24th Century fans and have the result of this force create Section 31. That would be fun.

So it's someone he knows, not just the horror of a starfleet officer gone rogue. A personal score.

I'm betting it's Gaila. Her eyes are gonna glow so bad..

Hmm... Gary Mitchell survived Delta Vega (he was in-between forms), got picked up by whomever (Section 31?) and is working within the Federation for better security (topical subject, a la the PATRIOT Act and TSA). That's my theory at least.

Either way I'm excited for this movie, Merry Christmas indeed! :D

This is fantastic! I think at this point, though, the synopsis still leaves it open as to who the villain can be. Of course, the two front-runners we've been discussing this whole time.

The phrase "Detonated" sounds off, but nonetheless it sounds like Starfleet will be in serious disarray. These guys can't catch a break in nuTrek (not that the prime timeline was any kinder)!

I would love there to be some Section 31 but I seriously doubt it will happen.
