I'm back. Here's my latest (or maybe lamest) fake bit of Trek trivia.
The producers of TNG originally wanted Richard Dean Anderson to play Q but Richard was busy doing MacGyver. Their 2nd choice was Charlie Sheen but he turned them down cold. So they held auditions and found John de Lancie who got the part cause his performance as Q was the most believable. The producers felt everyone else who auditioned was too over the top with their performances.

FACT (not confirmed as fake): Kirk's torn shirts brought more at auction than undamaged ones.

    Borrowing from Ray Stevens:
It's me again, Margaret. He. He. He. He.
    In other words, I'm back.
Here's my latest, hopefully not lamest, fake bit of Trek trivia.

If Star Trek: Enterprise had faired better in the ratings and public opinion there would've been yet another Star Trek spin-off based on the DS9 episode Soldiers of the Empire. The show was slated to be titled Star Trek: Soldiers of the Klingon Empire.

    Qap'la!

"Intergalactic House of Pancakes" was one of the names considered for the Enterprise in an early draft of The Cage.

Intergalactic House of Pancakes later became a meme at the hands of viral video auteur Ross Scott and his Freeman's Mind series.

FACT: Andrew Probert is an alias of Michael Okuda who is actually responsible for almost every piece of design in the Star Trek franchise.

T'Pol leg got caught in a trap, but she just chewed her leg off to get free. Dr. Phlox, of course, reattached it later.

FACT: George Lucas hates Star Trek. He covertly convinced Paramount Pictures to cancel Star Trek Phase II in the mid 1970's, citing all kinds of data about how it wouldn't do well. His private reason was that he didn't want any distractions from his upcoming Star Wars movie. When Paramount changed course later on and decided to pursue a movie after Close Encounters of the Third Kind was a success, he volunteered to advise Gene Roddenberry on the film. He purposefully suggested the idea of several long and slow segments of the Enterprise wandering through the V'ger cloud and ship, to echo the artistry of 2001: A Space Odyssey. But his real intention was to try making the movie as boring as possible. How did this information come to be available to the public? George had written it out as a kind of "ghost essay", never intending publication, but his son got a hold of a copy and sent it to a friend, who later leaked it to a sci-fi related forum.

Another connection between Trek and Stan Winston Studios is that William Shatner was constructed from the remains of the animatronic T-rex from Jurassic Park to replace the real William Shatner shortly after ST6. He now refers to himself as the Shatnersaurus.
