I'm guessing (kind of knowing this teams motivations for doing things in their movies) that we see the Klingon home world largely because nobody has ever really seen it in this time in history. We saw it in Enterprise and in the TNG era but that is really it.

I mean otherwise they could have done it anywhere else really.

 

Well, it was over five years ago, I wasn't sure how well everyone's memories were. Based on this thread, quite well, it seems.

 

I don't know about Kronos, but we definitely need to see more Klingon action. In the last movie I saw a lot of undervaluation of this iconic race.
