Interesting...not sure that I'm thrilled about Bullock. I like Sandra's work but not really sure she's right for this particular role.

I'm a big fan of Sandra and am exited to see her in it, so i guess the only way for us to see if she can do it is for her to try.

Who would you prefer in the role? xx :)

I'll watch Clooney in almost anything, but I can't say I'm thrilled with Bullock.

Sounds a little like Moon in which the lead actors are the film...
Maybe a little more cerebral or like Solaris remake he was in where its more psychological.

Having read the script it is definitely cerebral and psychological along the lines of "Moon". I'm still excited for this film.

Gravity. Another "space" film coming out soon, its about time.

Gravity is scheduled to be released on November 21, 2012.

Gravity has a production budget of $80 million and is being filmed digitally. It will be converted to 3D in post-production. Filming began in London in May 2011

"Gravity" is among my most anticipated films of this year. I had the chance to read an early version of the screenplay and it was excellent. Sandra Bullock will do well with the part, and Clooney is a good successor for RDJ who was originally cast.

opening shot 20 minutes!? sounds like the opening to Contact (1997) but much longer. 60% CGI? sounds like The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King with 1488 visual effect shots.

looking forward to this & Prometheus this year.

Cuaron likes long takes, so I'm not surprised he's pushing the envelope there. Although if we want to take long takes and sf, the opening shot of Strange Days seems to be a better example than Contact.

Yep...the opening shot is quite long, and you're either going to hate it or love it. I loved it when I read the script. I'm most curious to seeing how this translates on screen.

    finally a release date:
    October 4.
It has some steep competition that week though:
IMAX release is a nice touch.

a scifi movie in space that is not laser beams and action ship explosion scenes. This is a lot closer to Moon, Apollo 13, or Solaris being a thinking man's psychological-sci-fi film rather than a action-sci-fi genre film. Interesting release date choice with SWEP.3ROTS3-D that weekend. I'm sure in Gravity the spaceship's destruction scene will be pretty cool but based in science.

I'm guessing the sequence in "Mission to Mars" (2000) where the ship takes on micrometeorites and they have to abandon the ship will be something similar on an action level to this film.

I liked it. But, I also kept thinking about the Bradbury short story about the astronauts all flying apart in space...

This better have a damned good script... Unless it's a 30 minute movie.

The opening shot alone is nearly twenty minutes...I read an early draft of the script and was blown away by it. Really though what everyone will be talking about and why most people have been anticipating this will be the cinematography, the special effects, and the two actors, especially Sandra. There is a reason why Cuaron went after some of the best in the business.
