Since our Shran appreciation thread fell off the radar several months ago, I have made a 2013 edition, because there can never be too much Shran love. And the thread title (care of TiberiusMaximus) is priceless. To re-launch the Shran-fest, I have fulfilled a request from last year and made y'all a Shran calendar for 2013. Also: Trip - Trip & T'Pol - Archer Enjoy!
Shran is the Man! 'Been saying it for years. Coombs OWNED that role. I am hanging that calendar on my wall. Thanks!
The only episode I didn't like Shran in was the Aener, but that was because I just didn't like the episode. Other than that, Shran was a great character, played to perfection by the great Jeffery Combs.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for updating this thread!! I'm at work right now and can't access the calender, so I look forward to looking at it when I get home! Cheers!
My wife likes Shran, she desperately wants to trust and like the Andorians but they always have that hidden motive.
I hope this won't be considered a thread highjack, but I would like to express my appreciation for Jeffrey Combs, the actor. I was fortunate to see this one man play in Las Vegas last year. He gave a moving, sensitive, and at times funny performance of an artist struggling with alcoholism and other demons. My husband (who does not enjoy the language of Poe) commented on just what a good actor Jeffrey Combs is. It makes me a little sad to look at IMDB and see that the only parts he seems to get now are B movies. However, there is something to be said for being a working actor...
Combs is WAY under appreciated as an actor. He's able to convey emotion and feeling just by the look in his eyes, to say nothing of his voice inflections and his ability to play very diverse characters. I'd have loved to see him do this Edgar Allen Poe piece. If there's a 3rd NuTrek movie, I'd love to to see Combs cast in a major role in it just to let him finally get the big spotlight he really deserves.
I'm with you R. Star! I would happily sign a petition to make that happen! I know Combs has a solid fan base, but I would love it if he got a major role in a high budget production so everyone could see what we see! In other news...it appears that Combs has always been able to sell "blue". Behold:
I can't sit by and let this thread wither away on page 2! I know Shran had a criminally low number of episodes, but I loved what his character brought to the table whenever he was on screen. When he first appeared it seemed like he was going to be a stereotypical man of action, but I loved how he progressed from tough guy to compassionate character. I loved this scene: It did a nice job of showing Shran as a multi-faceted character.
