A fun and highly creative internet game that's been around for a while, and also featured on Miscellaneous on a number of occasions. Basically it goes like this, for those who don't know: 1) Go to Wikipedia and select a random page, or use this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random The title (ignoring any disambiguation suffixes) of the first random Wikipedia article you get is the name of your band. 2) Get a random quotation from this page (NB it may produce pop-up ads) http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3 The last four or five words of the very last quotation of the page is the title of your first album. 3) Go to flickr and click on "explore the last seven days" as per below: http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days/ The THIRD picture along, no matter what it is, will be your album cover. The last time we had this thread, Australis also suggested a fourth rule: a random name generator for song titles. http://watchout4snakes.com/CreativityTools/RandomWord/RandomPhrase.aspx Put them together (optionally via your favourite image manipulator software of choice) and you then have your own album cover! Some examples from today: For reference, here are the older threads, each containing some excellent examples (while the image links last). Original 2008 thread by Worf412: http://www.trekbbs.com/showthread.php?t=56289 2009 thread by myself: http://www.trekbbs.com/showthread.php?t=107588 2010 thread by Australis: http://www.trekbbs.com/showthread.php?t=132051 Hmm, looks like this is turning into an annual event... Anyway, I like this sort of thing... anyone else want to join in the fun?
I LOVE THESE!!! Tracklisting (occasionally varying the options, of course): 1. Delicate Bulletin 2. Slow 3. Perfect Counting 4. Occasion 5. Breakaway Drama 6. Danish Saw 7. Skoal 8. Disjointedness 9. Crisp 10. Midnight Pop 11. Country Classicification 12. Abuse 13. Spare Ion I am actually quite pleased with that. And yes, Midnight Pop did come up on random. Actually sounds like a proper track.
So this seemed like a fun, silly way to pass time, and I thought why not... until I ran into a Flickr wall. I can't download ANYTHING. They all say "The owner has disabled downloading of their photos". Do ALL owners have downloading disabled? I don't have a Flickr account; would that make a difference?
FINALLY found a couple that are downloadable. Still, I'll wait on this till later anyway, since the only option while I'm at work is MS Paint, and the text options in that program are... lacking. Unless I just leave it as standard arial, black color (boring), it's hard to even read the text against the background of the picture! If only I could download Gimp onto this thing... ah well. I'll whip something up when I get home. Zion and WillsBabe, those last two are great
I have no skillz with Paint or any other app, but that's OK. I may not have done the album cover image but I did invent the title for this album! Hamsters In Reserve Dead link
More like the back of a CD cover rather than the front, but it was too entertaining not to do the tracklist.
Okay! Track listing: 1. Unfamiliar Reaction 2. Triple Glory Mathematics 3. Postpone 4. Invented Fourth Speech 5. Wire 6. Open Passport Reveal 7. Node 8. Managing Cave Land 9. Idealistic Pushing Miscalculation 10. Basement That random word and phrase generator page is too fun.
