Until a Superman movie came out, Superman Returns...Alot of stuff was off limits for Smallville...like showing Krypton, Jor El, Lara, Zod, Doomsday...and God knows what else...but after SR Smallville was able to explore more of the Superman mythos...etc. With a new Superman movie in the works...very earlier works...will this hurt Smallville the rest of the season & hurt a season 10...if there is a season 10??? I say yes, because the ball is rolling on a new Superman movie and we have yet to hear about a season 10 of Smallville, when not to long ago it seemed to be a done deal...alot is at play here.
I thought we heard a few weeks ago that Smallville was green-lit for a 10th seasons. This "might" hurt Smallville as might mean more dopey angsty Clark/Blur nonsense insteand of just making him flipping Superman already. But I hope DC will pull its head out of its ass and realize one won't effect the other. Make Clark Superman already!
The only way Clark will be seen as Superman in Smallville is in the last scene of the series finale. Other than that it's not going to happen. I don't think a new movie will have any impact on whether or not Smallville gets a 10th season. Its 10th, and certainly final, season would be over well before a new movie is released. From what I've heard there hasn't been a 10th season renewal yet because there's still some contractual haggling going on.
Well I heard that too about season 10 being greenlit as well, but Welling,Durrance,Hurley have signed on. The only full-time cast member since departure of Michael Rosenbaum as Lex Luthor is leaving the show, and that's Allison Mack that plays Chloe Sullivan/Watchtower,but if the ratings are driving the show it could change her mind, and she'll resign for another year. the storyline is leading more and more towards CK/Kal-El becoming Superman, but let's wait and see during season break when Smallville cast, and crew attend a few conventions like Comicon to see where the show's handlers want to go with it. We've yet to see CK take flight, and 30TH century is just a ring jump away so there a stories left to be told if any proof is needed I point to "Absolute Justice" is one of the best two hour episodes that I've actually saw gave me hope that if the end result is him doning primary colors, and a cape or better yet a red Neo coat, blue t-shirt with father's symbol blue/red leather pants simlar to GA's togs. What do you think of my musings? Signed Buck Rogers
I do remember reading that Smallville had been picked up but it wasn't official. I read something last or a few weeks ago when the CW picked up a slew of shows that said it was still going to wait until May to renew Smallville or not. That being said I personally wouldn't mind seeing the show finally end, I've become tired of seeing the same thing each week and contniually being teased and shown potential of greatness and never being paid off. If a tenth season is green lit I will be dropping the show and basically waiting for the finale episode. They keep milking this for what it's worth and preventing long time fans from seeing what they truly want to see which is Clark finally becoming Superman with the costume and everything.
^ I think because of what turned out to be SR, TPTB with Smallville had to hold back alot and since season 5 more has been done...but not enough really...why he is not flying...which I have said before should have happen during season 4-5...is beyond me.
Do they have the budget to have Clark fly on a regular basis ? I know visual effects are cheaper now, but I always remember hearing Teri Hatcher saying how they usually limited seeing Superman take off and land because it was so expensive to do.
I read a great tweet from Craig Bryne who runs Kryptonsite who asked the question what does Smallville have the budget for? Clark flying or resigning Michael Rossenbaum? I laughed at that.
I would say Smallville is in trouble. There's been no rush to renew it the same was Supernatural and other CW shows have been renewed. I certainly appreciate all of the DC fan stuff they've been throwing in lately, but that's not really enough.
Does anyone else recall the rumors and the poster that was reported as having been seen last year? The word "Metropolis" in the same lettering font as the "SMALLVILLE" title, with the Superman symbol behind it? The date shown was "December 2010". That poster has since been said to have been a fake, but you can't help but wonder. It'd be interesting if the show wraps at the end of this season, and they do a movie (televised or theatrical) that shows Clark finally become Superman. Could also solve Warner's problem with the legal obligations to the heirs of Superman's creators, that they have to do another movie by a certain date or end up owing the heirs REALLY big bucks. If they went that route, as a fan I could handle it.
Michael Ausiello from EW just posted his mailbag today. Somebody asked about Smallville and he said Season 10 is all but in the bag and it's just coming down to money, contracts, and legalese.
^The problem is, the one member of the cast I want to sign a new contract most likely isn't going to.
Clark will become Superman sometime next season when he realizes he's about to turn 40 and hasn't done anything with his life.
No, it is not. It is simply contract stuff that is holding it off. Just read that this am over at EW.
I think that might be a problem for most of us. Next year's running commentaries could come down to Othello talking to himself.
