It's just fun to see how many hairpieces Shatner wore during the films. I'd have included the TV series, but didn't feel like sifting through the episodes to see if his toupee changed in the middle of one of the seasons.

I really don't get the obsession people have with hairpieces, especially on actors. I don't see it as any different than makeup. It's a tool they use to uphold an image. What's the big deal?

I think it's just meant in fun :). No harm, no foul.

@ Clark Terrell: Thanks for the thread. Always thought that the whole Kirk toupee thing was rather silly and there's nothing wrong with a good laugh in regards to it.

The Voyage Home one actually looks like it could be just his hair period, it's one good toupee, tbh.

But we're not talking about just any actor. We're talking about The Shatner!

What other actor has an entire website devoted to his toupees?

Makes you wonder if one of the reasons that Gene cast Patrick Stewart was because he was already "openly" bald, so there would be no more having to deal with toupees and secrecy like he had to with Shatner.

I've always thought they did a great job on Shatner's hair. I also agree that TVH shows him with the best look.

^^ I already posted a link to that blog.

Shatner's worst fake hair was during his T.J. Hooker period. Christ, it looked like he was wearing a giant tribble on his head.

The big deal is in spotting the Tribble that acted as his hair's "Stunt Double".

Didn't they do a few test shots of Stewart in a toupee at first?

    I'm pretty sure they did

Shat's pieces were cutting edge technology of the times. I'm betting him & Ricardo Mantalban went to the same place

It's a shame they couldn't or didn't recreate his lce look from TOS in the films.

Actually I thought I saw a pic awhile back where someone did an impressive Photoshop of that. It didn't look bad.

If I missed your post it's possible that others did too. Regardless, it's worth repeating.

I don't think that Shatner was the only one whose hair changed throughout the years.
Scotty's hair changed, Picard's hair changed.
Didn't Gates McFadden always wear a wig? And Majel Barrett donned some really awful ones especially in TOS.

And gasp I don't think Rand's hair was all hers.

Well, that has just ruined my whole past 4 decades. I thought FOR SURE that the character of Janice had nothing else to do off-duty than un-do and re-do that stupid basket-shaped hairstyle.

If you want to see Patrick Stewart with hair, then watch I, Claudius (the episodes with Sejanus).

Yeah, that was disappointing to learn. Oh, well...she's still a pretty woman.:)

But it does make me wonder why Shatner specifically gets the jabs at his hair. You don't see a website devoted to Gates McFadden's wigs.

Though speaking of McFadden, remember all the jokes about Sean Connery's hair in The Hunt for Red October? I didn't get that, either. He's an actor..it's a role. What's funny?

Might as well make fun of Nimoy's rubber ear tips, or Spiner's contact lenses!

Yes, his hair is going to change. Now he looks like a old man in the priceline commercials. But, his acting skills has not improved since 1967.
