He IS a pretty boy, that's for sure. He also, however, is a chatter-box and will, after hours of silence, meow up a storm--as we discovered late last night. His meow, however is more like a squeak, like someone is stepping on a dog toy.

He's not terribly digging the stairs, though; it scares him for some reason. I have to carry him up and down at night. I might start putting treats on the stairs to see if he'll follow me.

About the stairs issue--I would definitely suggest the positive reinforcement route rather than always carrying him. ;)

Maybe he fell down some stairs. Cats remember stuff like that, but you can help him overcome his fear.

I'm genuinely curious what in the evolution of cats led to their predilection for getting into things like boxes to sleep.

Maybe they slept in small little dens and caves in the desert where they were safe from larger predators?

^That must be it. Cats like to be either on top of things, surveying, or underneath/inside things, hiding out.

"Junior" is going up and down the stairs on his own and coming out of hiding for a slightly longer time each day.

We discovered today, after cooking up some ground beef, that Junior has a vertical jump of about 4 and a half feet, as he jumped straight from the kitchen floor into the sink. He could smell the pan; it's a good thing we didn't set it in to soak, or there would've have been one hell of a splash.

So.......no leaving food on the counter from now on.

Next time put some mouse traps in the sink. That'll teach him to look before he leaps!

aluminum foil is actually great for that! I think they hate the feel of the foil on thier paws/claws.
