DC Comics use to have this title where they would just devote an entire issue to a new, or, seldom used character so the reader would know a little more about them.

I have decided to do this for the STAR TREK; The 21st Century story for those who want to read more about a characters/plot history, and even for myself so I can refer to the 'showcase' as well if I need to.

    SHOWCASE #001: Nadya Chekov

    --
Nadya Chekov is the daughter, and youngest child of Mikiel and Tamara Chekov.

    THE CHEKOV FAMILY

Pieter Chekov is the oldest son. Not much is known of Pieter, and he has only been mentioned once or twice in the entirety of this story. All we know is that he did not get along with his parents, and he left home at a young age.

Pavel Chekov was the second oldest child, and unknown to his family, he was recently murdered by a shape-shifter, who then took his form. Pavel, when he was alive, excelled in the business world. After inheriting his grandfather’s business, Pavel turned the small company into an international corporation with many diverse companies in various technical fields.

Mikiel Chekov was one of the last Russian cosmonauts before Russia joined the United Nations, and folded its space program, as American did with NASA, into the United Space Agency, which in turn, became part of the Federation’s Starfleet Command. Mikiel is a legend to the Russian people.

Tamara Chekov is Mikiel’s wife. She is a social climber who meddles in the private lives of her children; to much so, in Mikiel’s judgment, but none the less, she does anyway.

    HISTORY

Nadya was always a tom-boy. She took after her father, Mikiel, and never sat well with Tamara who had wanted to guide the young girl into the world of fashion and social climbing as well.

Mikiel helped Nadya in her quest to become a cosmonaut, and later, a navigator with the United Space Agency. Mikiel’s decades long friendship with Christopher Pike was able to open doors for Nadya that might not have otherwise opened.

Finally competing training with the United Space program, Nadya became the original Enterprise’s navigator. It was there she began a romantic relationship with Gary Mitchell, as well as relationship with Guinan, the woman who ran the recreation department of the Enterprise. Although Nadya has been romantically, and sexually intimate, with both men and women, she prefers to someday marry a man and have children.

During a refit for the original Enterprise, both Nadya Chekov and Gary Mitchell were reassigned to the Starship Reliant. The Reliant’s first mission was to ascertain the viability of completing colonizing efforts that an earlier mission died trying to construct. As it turned out, the original team had actually survived, and its leader, Khan, blamed the United Space Agency for his near death. In his revenge he infected Nadya with a mind controlling space creature.

Nadya would later return to Earth, and while sharing a night of passion with two men at the same time, the creature inside her body, to due the rough nature of the sexual encounter with the two men, believed its own life to be threatened, and took control of Nadya’s body and killed the two men. She was later cleared of charges when it became known that her actions were not her own. The creature was driven from her body, and she regained control of her actions.

When the Enterprise crew became lost in the Delta Quadrant. Nadya’s relationship with Gary Mitchell, and with Guinan, continued with the three often sharing nights of passion together. Due to Mitchell's unwillingness to settle down with just one woman, Nadya has drifted apart from him again.

She played a vital part during the time lost in the Delta Quadrant, and has earned the respect of the crew.

Upon returning to Earth, Secretary of State Christopher Pike and Starfleet/Earth Security chief, Steve McGarrett, assigned Nadya to investigate a possible connection between her brother Pavel’s corporation and the creation of the Delta-Quadrant’s threat; the Borg.

    Steve McGarrett

When a world joins the Federation, all security aspects of that world are handled through a joint program with the Federation’s Starfleet. When Earth became part of the Federation, Steve McGarrett was assigned the position of Chief of Operations at SEASAT: Starfleet Earth Security Agency Team.

Steve McGarrett had a long career in investigations, and had headed a similar department with in United Nations. McGarrett is known to be a straight-shooting man, with very little patience for those who do not take Earth’s security seriously, as he does.

McGarrett played a vital part in exposing, and dealing with, the android threat posed by John Gill. Gill had hoped to replace Federation diplomats with androids developed by Roger Corby. Gill had succeeded early on by replacing Ambassador Sarek with an android. It was Gill’s plan to have the Sarek android kill Romulan Ambassador Nor’vra, there by sparking a war with the recently arrived Romulans, who had come to Earth after their home world, was destroyed by VGR.

In a last ditch effort, McGarrett, along with James T Kirk, and Ruk, an Android, was able to thwart John Gill’s plan. It would be revealed that Gill himself, as well as Corby, were androids and that the androids had hoped to, one day, rule the entire Galaxy.

McGarrett also played a part in dealing with the intrusions of humans from the Mirror-universe. When lawyer Sam Cogley was framed for a murder he did not commit, James Kirk helped Cogley out of the mess by getting Steve McGarrett to look into the matter. Eventually it would be revealed that humans from the Mirror-universe were attempting to change the timeline. McGarrett and Cogley would thwart this plan.

McGarrett is very interested in the Mirror-Spock, who is now the only survivor of that doomed universe. Kirk, and Pike, who is one of McGarrett’s long time friends, have both thwarted McGarrett’s attempts to interview Mirror-Spock by allowing him to remain on the Enterprise. McGarrett wants to interview this Mirror-Spock to ascertain his role in the kidnapping of Kirk, and possibly, others, whom he brought over to the doomed universe. Kirk is satisfied that Mirror-Spock poses no threat, but is weary of what McGarrett might do; perhaps charging Mirror-Spock with the abduction of Kirk, even though Kirk does not wish to press charges.

Another top priority of McGarrett’s is the on going investigation into the connection between Ominos, a Russian high-tech firm, and the Borg. All of the Borg aboard the cube ship just outside Earth’s system have microscopic trademarks as part of their DNA. As if some company had created them, and had left their trademark for posterity. McGarrett, and Pike, have assigned Nadya Chekov to investigate the situation.

McGarrett is also aware of the fact that Nor’vra, before she was the Romulan Praetor, had secretly traveled to Rome Italy, and from there, to Egypt. Why she did this, McGarrett does not know.

He is unaware of the fact, but Kirk/Mirror-Spock are, that Nor’vra was in possession of an Omicron Device. The Omicron Device was one of many strange artifacts that were in Roman possession, but were taken by the Romans who were evacuated by the Vulcans far in Earth’s ancient past. Kirk would have told McGarrett about the Omicron Device, but recent events have taken place that have interfered with Kirk’s intentions.

    SHOWCASE #3
    Mikiel Chekov

Mikiel Chekov is a hero to the old line Russian public. As the world finally came out of the depression of the 2010s, Mikiel Chekov, as Christopher Pike had done for the American people about the same time, gave the common person someone they could cheer.

With Russia and America sharing the same ambitions of a shared space exploration, many of the systems that were used to build the advanced Starships of the 2050s came from the ‘by the seat of the pants’ space program that both nations shared in.

Mikiel Chekov’s wife was, and still is, a prominent socialite. Her name is Tamara, and they have three children; Peter, Pavel, and Nadya. Tamara is always sticking her nose into the lives of her children.

As Mikiel’s cosmonaut years winded down, he had achieved much; including the founding of the first colonies on the moon. Mikiel many achievements, coupled with his strong looks, made a hero to all Russian people, and especially a hero to his own daughter; Nadya. She reciprocated this respect by joining, at first, the Russian Space Program, then the United Space Program, and eventually, Starfleet, after Earth joined the Federation. Tamara. Mikiel’s wife, never wanted her daughter to begin a space career, and will never let either of them, Nadya or Mikiel, forget her displeasure.

With the Romulans showing more and more interest in Russia, and their shared distant ties to Roman history, Mikiel is becoming leery of the female Romulan Praetor; Nor’vra. However, Mikiel, like everyone else, is unaware of the fact that Nor’vra has been replaced by a changeling. In fact, Mikiel’s own son, Pavel Chekov, was recently murdered, and now another Founder is using the human shape of Pavel Chekov for as of a yet unknown reason.

    The VGR Plot

Many references have been made about the VGR plot, so I will do a brief recap. I warn you, this VGR plot was pretty whacked, even for my standards. Here we go.

    --
Remember, Romulans are actually descendants of Romans who left Earth, and eventually established their own world centuries ago. Well, one of these Romulans, a real religious nut-job named Sevrin, was exiled from Romulas for his strange beliefs. One such belief was that women were put in this universe to be nothing more than receptacles for male domination and sexual abuse. Sevrin, once he was exiled from Romulas, came to Earth, in the 1960s, and established this strange cult in America.

His followers on Earth were unaware of his Romulan heritage. Sevrin, who was born of mixed heritage (Romulan/Vulcan) had developed better than average telepathy and had made contact with an alien entity that traveled the universe alone; this entity was a large plasma energy life form, the size of a solar system. This entity promised to bring Sevrin’s beliefs to the rest of the universe if Sevrin were to become its companion in the process. But first, the Plasma Cloud entity needed to find Sevrin, since directions were hard to give in the distance of space; though it was near, that much it knew.

In 1973 Sevrin and his followers forced a NASA programmer to include a secret course correction inside of Voyager II’s programming. Voyager II was launched, and years later, it changed course and headed for an eventual rendezvous with plasma cloud. But that would happen years, decades even, later. Sevrin died, but the cult went on.

    Jump to the early 2050s.

One of Sevrin’s grandchildren, a man named William Decker, became a renowned scientist in his own right, while secretly a member of the cult. Decker had a wife; actually she was from India, her name was Ilya, and her parents sold her to Decker when she was just nine years old. She eventually, once she became of age, was forced to, by Decker, to be his wife. He routinely beat her and subjected her to sexual dominance, as was his way, and how she was trained to live as well.

Finally the strange plasma cloud was detected coming toward Earth. It was sending out a signal, and referred to itself as VGR. Only one person alive knew the response code; William Decker. But before he could make contact with VGR, Ilya did instead. After ruthlessly killing Decker, Ilya, now with great powers, left to join the cloud in space. Ilya, now with nearly infinite power, decided to get revenge on the male dominated society Earth had become. The only thing that stopped her was Gary Mitchell. By this time Mitchell had become very powerful as well; a Q. He convinced Ilya to direct her wrath at the planet that spawned the true leader of the cult; the long dead Sevrin. And he showed her the truth; how Sevrin had actually come from Romulas. (Mitchell’s efforts were also biased since he had been tortured by the Romulans and Khan in an earlier plot).

A fleet of ships, from all over the Alpha-Quadrant, attacked the cloud, but the fleet was destroyed instead. And in her final act, Ilya self destructed the massive energy cloud near Romulas, destroying the Romulan home world and its population of nearly two billion.

    SHOWCASE #5
    ODO

The character of Odo has appeared a few times during our story. But very little is known of him, and his people; but this we do know.

Odo’s people are indeed the Founders. They control the far away Gamma-Quadrant. It has been revealed in the story that Odo had been on Earth for, at least, one-hundred years. He was sent to study Earth, and throw away lines suggested he was on Earth for some yet, unknown reason.

In an earlier plotline, when the Enterprise was lost in the Delta-Quadrant, Odo warned Starfleet to not send the lost ship to the Gamma-Quadrant. The Founders were in firm control of that area of the galaxy, and would most certainly use the “JEM’HEDAR” to destroy the Enterprise. Odo did assist in exposing the android plot of John Gill, but Odo also made it known that his people, the Founders, are not allies of the Federation and would consider any incursion into the Gamma-Quadrant an act of war. When pointed out that his own incursion into the Alpha-Quadrant could be seen as a possible act of war, Odo ignored the inference.

There are currently two other Founder/shape-shifters on Earth. They are Laas, who is using the form of Pavel Chekov, whom he killed. The other shape-shifter is Laynia, who is in the shape of the Romulan Praetor Nor’vra. They are aware of Odo, but are not sure if he is still on Earth. But they will destroy ODO if he gets in their way!
