Alright...hands down...what is the greatest Musical Score ever created for a SCIFI/fantasy movie from 1960 to the present of all time...Lord of The Rings? Star Wars? Harry Potter? Superman? Transmorphers??? Which one would you consider the best of the best!!!

Probably Star Wars or Lord of the Rings.

But for a non-cliche nomination, I put forth the 2003 Peter Pan score. Beautiful stuff.

I'm a huge fan of Vangelis' score for Blade Runner. For fantasy, it's Lord of the Rings, hands down.

i'm going with SUPERMAN..i just love that soundtrack. And since I am not up on my fantasy movies (and found LOTR music to gooey) i will go with the music from Fifth Element as my dark horse SCIFI pick, with a nod towards Star Wars

I love The Time Machine - the modern one by Klaus what's-his-name.

I have to admit, I'm very sentimental about "Raiders of the Lost Ark."

I like bits and pieces of so many soundtracks, and my playlists reflect this by rarely having more than a handful of songs from the same movie.

But if I absolutely have to narrow it down to one soundtrack I'll go with Empire Strikes Back. John Williams was at the height of his technical skill and still growing creatively, and it all came together in the numerous leitmotifs in Empire.

You win 50 internetz for a GREAT selection! I love that score and the movie. It's criminally underrated.

And for my own atypical nomination: Jerry Goldsmith's score for SUPERGIRL.

This is one of those questions where I usually say "what is my favorite", but not this time.

Howard Shore's work on "The Lord of the Rings" is unparalleled in what I've heard in movies. That's colored a bit by what I know about his work in developing the score. That may be a highly expected answer, but it's what I feel is the best music ever created for a film. All the themes and their variations, developed for each culture and character. The smart blending of choral work. The influences of various real-world cultures to create the Elvish, Dwarvish, Rohirrim themes and more. It's magnificent.

John Williams' "Star Wars" work is probably the most iconic and it's likewise incredible. Who doesn't know that opening fanfare?

The Adventures of Robin Hood by Erich Wolfgang Korngold. That counts as fantasy, right?

Also, just for because I know how original these suggestions are, anything by John Williams or Jerry Goldsmith. ;)

Star Wars. ESB had a great soundtrack, but I think the Star Wars OST stands better on its own as pieces of classical music.

Although I agree with Star Wars, may I be the first to throw out William's E.T. The Extra Terrestial score.

    It's great.

Damn near everything John Williams has ever done, obviously.

John Carpenter's work, especially for Escape From New York would be another good one, and I certainly can't disqualify Blade Runner or Nightmare on Elm St.
