    Hi,

over in our german cinefacts forum we decided to create a petition for the reuse of the original german stereo tracks on the TNG-BD-sets for season 6 & 7.

The audio for these on the DVDs has been of very poor quality.

Even if you don't speak german, it would be very nice and helpful to support us with your signatures. :)

Please read the petition text for further details:

    THANK YOU! :bolian:

Mike Okuda himself just "liked" the petition on facebook!

    How cool is that?!

Also contacted trekcore, to see what they can do on their pages...

Signed! I hope it works. A petition was successful to convince Paramount to add the original german dub of The Litte Mermaid to the new release after years of locking it away so it seems petitions aren't always as hopeless as I though before.

How bad are these tracks? Can we hear examples?

...oh, I guess I have to download a zipped file. Anything on YouTube?

I don't know how to post an ac3 surround audiofile at youtube. Guess that's not possible.
But the zip file is just 3 MB size, so it's very small.
You should listen them with headphones to better notice the difference, or at best with a surround receiver.
With small notebook speakers it's probably not so obvious.

Just got an email from Trekcore.
They will talk to CBS about this issue TODAY! Wow...
Fingers crossed. I'll update here as soon as I have new informations.

So... Adam Walker himself from Trekcore wrote me, he'd see good chances for a reuse of the old german tracks, if CBS's sound engineers find the 5.1 mix as bad as described, and he will hand over all signatures himself to the responsible head of DVD at CBS.

There's still some time for seasons 6 & 7, but more signatures would be helpful.
Everyone can help. And together we can change things for a better release.
    :)

I'm surprised people still watch movies/shows with dubs. When I watch foreign films, I listen with original audio and read the subtitles.

Voice actors never do justice to the people they're dubbing.

While they are indeed inferior most of the time, there are also voice actors with outstanding performance. I find the German TOS quite good (Blu-Ray has too low pitch though, since it was dubbed with PAL speedup).

In TNG, I like the German Q even better then the original. Unfornutately, non of the TNG's (and later shows') main character's voice actors are even close to their original actors, imho.

And of course, many prefer dubbed tracks over subtitles, as subtitles distract from the picture. If I want to read, I'd take a book rather than a movie.

I myself watch Star Trek mostly in the original, but I know many people who don't understand English that well.
