Thanks to Mr. Spock, I sure can! As a child, I taught myself to raise an eyebrow over each eye, and to make the Vulcan greeting with both hands, just in case... for some reason, I don't know, kid logic, you know? Anyway, yes, I can raise my eyebrows independently of one another.
I saw a dude with one of those fish on his car yesterday. And then I looked closer and it had nacelles and said Trek, and I wanted to do the Vulcan greeting to him. But that was too nerdy, even for me. But I was so excited that there was another Trekkie next to me!
I really can't raise an eyebrow without completely contorting my entire face. It's less "raising an eyebrow" and more "lowering everything else."
I was going to post a picture, but then, that's still not quite evidence, since it's a still photo. So I posted a video. [yt]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f-XjQzHUoj8[/yt]
Yes. Though just the left one for some odd reason. However, this discussion reminds me of a guy I knew in grade school who swore up and down he could move his ears, and then proceeded to contort his entire face. I think his ears moved... eventually.
Kay John was just as strangely weird and cute as he always is. I also had a suspicion roshi would turn up and scare everyone. It's sort of a board constant. Like if someone starts a thread saying "can you invert your [insert body part of choice]", he'll turn up with some picture that makes you want to move to Orkney. This is why I love both of them.
I can raise just one eyebrow by itself, and it's my left one. I can't lift the right eyebrow without both popping up at the same time. I've tried...a lot. I just can't do it. I can also do the Vulcan hand sign with both of my hands for whatever that's worth.
When I first saw TOS and Spock, I practiced the "one eye brow" thing. At first I couldn't, but I worked on it. Then I worked on the "Piece and Long Life" thing. That took some time too.
Nope -but once I bought a small mirror to practice it with while watching TV Ah! so that's why you hide half your face!
I can raise my left eyebrow easily. I can sometimes raise my right, but not as well, and only until I start thinking about it (after which it's almost impossible.) That I can do - rolled into a tube, folded back upon itself, or fluted. I've never been any good at an Italian rolled R. Just can't do it.
Frau Blucher did not say this. She is Scottish and is therefore genetically programmed to roll every 'r' in sight.
