Actually it says the character is a specialist in combat and weapons, which seems somewhat different from May's unarmed-combat specialty.

It also says the two new characters are recurring, not regular.

:vulcan: That seems unlikely. Unless she's a pre-op transsexual? ;)

I think I meant to write "if he's male" but let's roll with it.

There are two characters, right? I thought one was with weapons and the other with combat?

That would be incredibly daring. Even more so if the character were played by a pre-op actress.

Like to see it happen as I don't think a transgender actor has ever gotten a major role in a tv series before.

Still I doubt the mouse will allow it.

I find it strange that anybody thinks that killing a main character would be daring. That's the hoariest of cliches these days. A cop out is not daring.

A transsexual character would be daring, I suppose, but what would they do with it? Make him or her a former relationship of Ward or May and show them work through their issues? I'd be up for that, but I don't think TV really does "meaningful" stories these days. Maybe they could hire a set of male-female twins to play a character who can change sex at will. That would be cool. :mallory:

Paula Marshal is playing a post op transsexual in Two and a Half Men these days.

    She's having sex with Alan.

    He doesn't mind.

The most, mainstream show in America that your parents (OKay, maybe some of you are REALLY old.) watch because it's comfortable: cannot be daring.

Joss kills people becuase death has ongoing ramifications that he likes to fuck with.

I assume Jed fell about the same distance from the tree his brother did.

    Who?

Buffy: First major death is Angel in the season 2 finale but he gets back in season 3, Buffy "dies" for a split second which leads to another Slayer being called. The only major deaths are Buffy's mom (one of the most awesome episodes), Tara and Anya in the show finale

Angel - Riley early on because the actor wanted out of the show i believe, Cordelia in season 4 (same reason) and Fred (season 5 or already season 4)

Dollhouse: No major deaths in the show but then i missed most of season 2

Firefly: Cancelled too soon but given a normal run there were 3 potential couples (Mal/Inara, Zoe/Wash and Simon/Kaylee) to choose from and we know Whedon just loves to rip apart happy fan favorite couples so i guess it would have happened sooner or later (as evident from Serenity with 2 crew deaths)

Traitor.. not the same as death of a beloved character. As far as i can tell there are no beloved characters in the show (hopefully yet) and i guess killing off Skye would set of a thank you storm in the internet  (personal bias included). This is the main problem with the entire show.. we just don't care about any of the characters maybe with the exception of Coulson but since he's the central figure of the show he's immune to death (pun also included). There are bits and pieces here and there that make me like some of the characters or get a fresh angle on them.. FitzSimmons sure have grown a bit in the last few episodes and the one where Ward and Simmons (or was it Fitz) went on a solo mission was also quite good characterwise but overall the show is just too bland.

I don't like to bring up Firefly (i'll do it anyway) but that show had about the same run time now as Shield (a few more episodes but that's besides the point) and we were deeply engaged with the crew to a point i have rarely seen in most shows after such a short while. Hell.. i was done after the pilot episode which had more effortless character explanation than the whole Shield run so far.

I hope the producers pay very close attention to the feedback and try to turn the ship around.. they are improving but the show is still mediocre when everyone was expecting another "Whedon must see TV appointment level" show (especially after he totally rocked the Avengers movie). Maybe that was the problem but shows didn't start with such a big built in audience and still managed to hit the ground running.

Although there was a character, a friend of Xander's, who was set up in the pilot to look as if he'd be a regular, and then got killed midway through.

You mean Doyle. Riley was Buffy's post-Angel love interest on her own show.

Ohhhh, there are certainly a few in season 2.

Their names are Leo Fitz and Jemma Simmons. Fits went on the mission with Ward.

Jenny Calender was a major death in late S2. Also, Darla's death was shocking since she was being set up as the secondary main villain and she was Angel's sire.

Yeah, I remember Jenny's death was quite shocking at the time.

What if Fitz and Simmons are the Fenris Twins?

Baron Von Strucker( Founder of HYdra)'s mutant children.

They had rayblasting powers when they held hands.

Then she died, and he had her skin made into leather which he used on the hilt of his sword after he adopted the unused (Avengers adjacent) supervillian/hero identity The Swordsman as his own.

Even though I want them to fall into each others arms, I still think they act like brother and sister enough to pass for siblings.

Fictional incest is hilarious, especially when it happens to bad people.

It's not so much that Joss is always shockingly killing characters off, it's more that he creates this great characters who you come to truly care about and then he does horrible horrible things to them.

Jenny's death for example, wasn't such a big deal because of how devoted fans were to her character, it was a big deal because of how terrible it was for Giles, it devastated him, so shortly after we saw him so happy.

And, lets not forget about who killed her.

    Now, that was ####ed up.

Glad to see him returning. It might kill my theory to see him returning the week after the Centipede episode, though.

I'll look up Donnie Gill and get appropriately excited depending on who he is ;)

I gather Blizzard is a second- or third-string Iron Man villain -- basically the Marvel equivalent of Mr. Freeze or Captain Cold, say.

He looks more of a hapless loser than a supervillain, though, from what I've seen of his biography.

I saw the David Hasselhoff S.H.I.E.L.D. movie yesterday.

Awful, but the script (David Goyer) really geeked out.
