The Hiroshi is for B5 fans (lost ramming an enemy ship).
And the Sinclair is a nod to the passing of Michael O'Hare.

I'm trying to make all the lost ships in the book either a bad pun or a tribute.

I figured that about the Sinclair. Should have figured out the Hiroshi. :( (Bad B5 fan! Bad!) Can you imagine the fun the crew of the Y'ARR would have? :D Talk Like a Pirate Day is probably a required holiday for them!

Yeah, "Y'arr" I just puled out of my ass to have an alien-sounbding name. :)

BTW, credit to Eric Kristiansen for inspiring the Terrell. It's based on one of Jackill's designs. I liked his drawing (Joshua Paul class) and tried to make "my version" into plastic, then did these drawings off of my version.

    USS KIROV

    Zee ultimate dreadnought!!

I like the way the name sounds so much that I just don't care he was a damned Bolshevik, and even the Russian Navy renamed their ship after the fall.

Hm. Gotta do some more shadows, like under the saucer.
Sorry, jumped the gun there. :)

Did you get the idea for the secondary hull from elsewhere or did you improvise it yourself?

Improvise, baby. Franz Joseph dreadnought theory was that both the saucer and the secondary hull were bigger than a standard cruiser's. After staring at it for a few minutes, I realized the best way to do it was to take the front of the hull from a second Excelsior and flip it. The deflector hole is huge and the shuttle bay thingamajig fits inside just fine.

Gah! Refresh the Kirov again - I forgot those blocky things they added around the bridge superstructure.

^ Concur -- That's one of the few three-nacelle designs that actually looks right, rather than just having a nacelle/zit stick out of the top of the primary hull.

    Cheers,

Back to the Big D - here's a ventral view showing the extended belly, and the shuttle bay access which just happens to be the same shape as the deflector aperture. :D

Well, the TOS dreadnaught (or dreadnought) did have a deflector back there to start with, but the only way Excelsior could have a shuttlebay that could hold anything is if you scaled it up mightily.
