^Not quite - it was Khan's attack on the helpless Enterprise after beaming Kirk, Scotty and Carol into the brig which damaged the warp core and sent them falling to Earth.

Although it was Marcus' fault they were all in that situation to begin with...

I found Spock's quip in "Patterns of Force" to be perfectly in line with Yiddish humor, where the logic of stereotypes and the structure of racism was often ridiculed. If you don't believe me, watch Blazing Saddles.

ETA: For that matter, watch the Daily Show.

Picard in "The Naked Now" when he does that ridiculous cough thing to try to get Berverly's attention. The comedic value is timeless.

"NO BLAH BLAH BLAH!" is right up there in the what-were-they-thinking department.

"Get this cheese to sick bay" is high on my list, though I'm sure it was written with tongue-in-cheek.

But B'nanna and Insaneway leaping up and down like schoolgirls shrieking "Warp particles! WARP particles!" upset me on so many levels.

Kirk's entire We the People speech in The Omega Glory is the most embarrassing thing in Star Trek.

Not sure its the worst line, but it annoys the hell out of me: We were warned about Ferengi at the Academy.

Rather than be open-minded and willing to form his own opinions, Kim will just go along with the apparent stereotyping and institutionalised racism that goes on at Starfleet Academy--only to then totally forget everything he's been 'warned' about by being taken in by Quark's con.

As corny as it is I love that scene. lol

As for the Nazi line , being Jewish myself and knowing Nimoy and Shatner were it also didn't bother me. I can also see the black humor. Then again I also love Hogan's Heroes so what can I say.

Anyways as for one of the worst lines for me it would be in Enemy Within when Spock is actually teasing Rand at the end of the episode about her feelings for Kirk after almost getting raped by the "evil" Kirk. This scene is awful to me (even though I love the writing of this episode in general).

That may be, and I have no problem with that in a comedy like "Blazing Saddles". But I don´t think "Patterns of Force" qualifies as a light or comedic episode like "The Trouble with Tribbles" or "I, Mudd". Its theme was quite serious and a minute after Spock´s line he and Kirk where being whipped. In that context I just don´t see this line as a joke, but of course YMMV :)

I concur. He didn't say "that [uniform] should make a very convincing Nazi".
What he actually did was insult his captain who had never revealed any kind of behaviour that could remotely qualify such a tasteless remark.

Unfortunately, I think Mr. Spock is also the offender here delivering other "worst lines" of dialogue. All that illogical "time travel" mumbojumbo gets me every time - from the first season of TOS to the fourth movie. :ack:

Especially considering how great "The Twilight Zone" dealt with the "time travel" scene in a logical and philosophical manner.

Wow, that is surprising so by what you detail above, EVERYTHING dealing with our beloved Mister Spock and the curious phenomenon of time travel you have hated from 1966 - 1986. :vulcan:

Guess you loved him in his return visit; "Red Matter" Greatest Hits Tour of 2009!! ;)

A great joke? No, it wasn't. It's more of a groaner. However, I don't know why it should be considered immediately offensive, given the tendency in Jewish comedy to make light of very dark matters.

Spock's line is nothing more than a poke at Shatner's blonde-haired, Nordic alpha male appearance. Hardly a big deal.

This. And I love the first half of the movie. It started going downhill for me in the minutes leading up to the yell, but as soon as this happened it was the point of no return for me.

Agreed. I didn't learn of William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy Jewish background for years after watching and found this comment / dry humor of Spock quite humerous, so I do not think that plays into the enjoyment at all. To me it is the juxtaposition that through irony makes it funny.

But humor by definition is subjective.

Bashir in a season one episode of DS9. He's talking to Jadzia about staying up to work late, and he says to her very inappropriately something like:

"I can think of much better ways to keep you up all night"

    Ewwww

The problem with the line is that the PG-rating of Trek toned it down to the point of stupidity.

What would have clearly said, had the rating been R, was "For a moment there, I thought you were just a dumb hick who only fucks sheep."

That line was possibly the pinnacle of Star Trek Enterprise. It's all downhill from there.
