One could with that others would pursue grace and accomplishment rather than notoriety. A great lady has passed. Jan
Her Depression-era influence extended well into my childhood in the '70s as I watched her old movies on TV with my siblings. She was also excellent as a young adult in one of my all-time favorite movies, Fort Apache. She stayed out of the public eye for so long I wasn't really sure how old she was, I was a bit surprised she was "only" 85, but that's what happens when you start so early, I guess. Thanks for the memories and RIP.
She was a great lady who lived a long and full life, including serving her country as an ambassador. May she rest in peace.
My grandmother loved Shirley Temple, I always think of my grandma when they show that commercial for Shirley Temple DVDs. Ah, farewell...
She was an icon of a Hollywood that is long since gone. I tried to think of a child celebrity of similar levels of fame today and sadly the only name I could think of was Honey Boo Boo. I'm sure there must be somebody better. RIP Shirley, you entertained millions and will continue to do so with your fine body of work.
I think he meant that she was a pretty prominent child star in her child years, having starred in E.T.
I think Shirley Temple is like John Wayne, they were icons of a type that is not easy to find equivalents. You can find successful young actresses, say like Dakota Fanning, but probably not in that same "America's Sweetheart" way. The Olsen Twins made $300 million dollars but I don't know if they're universally loved.
